Idris Elba has joined the cast of director Travis Knight’s live-action Masters of the Universe movie, and he will take one of the most badass characters in the He-Man franchise… Duncan, Man-At-Arms!
Edla joins the previously cast Nicholas Galitzine (Purple Hearts, Red, White & Royal Blue, The Idea of You) as Prince Adam/He-Man, Camila Mendes (Riverdale) as his right-hand woman Teela, and the recently-cast Alison Brie (GLOW, Community) as Skeletor’s second-in-command, Evil-Lyn. Then there are reports that Jared Leto is up for the role of Skeletor.
I actually like the casting of Elba as Man at Arms! He was one of my favorite characters when I was a kid and it’s great to see that they got a strong actor to bring the character to life for this movie.
Man-At-Arms serves as a skilled warrior, inventor, and the trusted mentor to Prince Adam. As the Master of Weapons, Man-At-Arms is responsible for developing advanced technologies and weaponry to protect Eternia and Castle Grayskull from the forces of Skeletor. He is also a father figure to Teela, whom he raised as his adopted daughter.
Knight, who previously directed films such as Bumblebee and Kubo and the Two Strings, is directing from a script written by Chris Butler. David Callaham and Aaron and Adam Nee worked on the initial draft.
In Masters of the Universe, “10-year-old Prince Adam who crashed to Earth in a spaceship and was separated from his magical Power Sword—the only link to his home on Eternia.
“After tracking it down almost two decades later, Prince Adam is whisked back across space to defend his home planet against the evil forces of Skeletor.
“But to defeat such a powerful villain, Prince Adam will first need to uncover the mysteries of his past and become He-Man: the most powerful man in the Universe!”
Masters of the Universe is being produced by Escape Artists and Mattel Films for release exclusively in theaters worldwide on June 5, 2026.
