Bronwyn Newport has no regrets about breaking the ice on her debut season of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City.
“I think if I filmed it or I said it, they should definitely hear it,” Newport, 39, exclusively told Us Weekly while attending the Stonewall Inn Brick Awards Gala on November 18. “That’s what I wanna watch on other franchises and other shows is the real moments. I don’t wanna go back and revise history. If it’s happened, it’s how I felt in the moment.”
At the same time, Newport also isn’t afraid to admit when she’s wrong. As she battles changing friendship dynamics with Heather Gay, Lisa Barlow and other costars, the reality star said she is simply trying her best.
“If I need to apologize, I will,” she told Us while wearing Christian Siriano. “If I need to yell it into a microphone at the reunion, I will.”
There is one moment that Newport truly hopes will make the final cut as season 5 continues airing on Wednesday nights.
According to Newport, cameras captured “a really beautiful moment” at Encircle, which is a nonprofit organization that provides support and counseling for LGBTQIA+ students and their families at multiple locations in Utah.
“We put in a gender-neutral closet, so there are some pieces from my wardrobe I donated. I bought a lot of new stuff,” she said. “There’s some baby drag pieces if somebody wants to explore that journey for themselves. My husband and I go back every couple of months and refill and add makeup and wigs and gender-neutral items too. I always want for that to be on a big platform. I’m hoping we see that.”
Until then, Newport is using her platform for good in multiple ways. On November 18, the reality star showed her support for The Stonewall Inn Gives Back Initiative (SIGBI) while attending the Stonewall Inn Brick Awards Gala.
The Gala benefits SIGBI’s important work supporting grassroots organizations committed to LGBTQIA+ advocacy, as well as SIGBI’s Safe Spaces certification program, which institutes policies to ensure businesses and venues worldwide are serving LGBTQIA+ staff, customers and advocating for equality.
“Now, more than ever, the voices of allies need to be loud and proud,” Newport wrote via Instagram on November 20. “My husband [Todd Bradley] and I were so thrilled to lend our support to this historic legacy and the grassroots organizations they support to further a safe, inclusive, accepting and equitable world for everyone.”
While Newport, who is mom to 18-year-old daughter Gwen from a previous relationship, may call a conservative town in Utah home today, she feels grateful to have grown up with a diverse group of individuals who she loved and respected.
“I grew up right outside of San Francisco. I spent part of my youth outside of Amsterdam in the suburbs,” she told Us. “Personally in my family, there were always queer people around, very much a part of my parents’ friends circle, my siblings’ friend circle. It’s always been a community I identify with and I’m supportive of.”
