As part of her role as Patron of the Forward Trust, in honor of Addiction Awareness Week, Kate shared a heartfelt message of support for individuals struggling with addiction, highlighting the importance of compassion and understanding.

In her statement, the Princess of Wales stressed the importance of “simple acts of kindness,” noting that it is crucial not to judge or criticize those affected, recognizing that addiction is a “serious mental health condition.”

She said: “It has been heartening to see that progress is still being made to end the stigma surrounding those battling addiction. For too long, many have suffered in silence, harboring feelings of shame and guilt about their condition, despite their vulnerability.”

“Everyone suffering from addiction is another human being with a story of their own, which many of us don’t understand or see,” Kate noted, per the Daily Mail. “It is not our place to judge or criticize; we must take the time to sit by someone’s side, learning the values of love and empathy.”

“Being a shoulder to cry on or an ear to listen, these simple acts of kindness are crucial in breaking down the misunderstandings that so many face,” the princess concluded.

In her statement, Kate emphasized that addiction is “not a choice” and that no one is immune to its impact.

She urged for greater empathy and understanding, adding: “By acting with humility and compassion, we can all make a difference and support those who are suffering.”

The mom of three also acknowledged the vital work of charities across the country, which help guide individuals and families through the most challenging times.

However, she pointed out that these organizations cannot do it alone, adding: “It is up to each and every one of us to change the way we think about and consider the many people coping with addiction. Because recovery is possible.”

Supporting individuals struggling with addiction has always been a priority for Kate, and she has consistently championed Addiction Awareness Week, dedicating her time and efforts to raise awareness and offer her support to those affected.

From the start of her royal journey, Kate has always called for support for people battling with an addiction. One of the first charities she became involved with as a patron was Action on Addiction.

Additionally, since 2021, she has served as a patron for the Forward Trust, an organization that offers support through services such as an online chat for those battling addiction, as well as addressing other critical social issues like homelessness, unemployment, and criminal justice involvement.

Last year, she visited a prison in Surrey as part of her continued commitment to addiction awareness.

During her visit, Kate shadowed a family on a regular visit and participated in the usual security procedures, including being checked by sniffer dogs.

While there, she also learned more about the Forward Trust’s rehabilitation efforts, including the Stepping Stones program, which helps individuals maintain their recovery from alcohol and drug addiction.

The Princess’s Return To Public Duty: Representing The King At Qatar State Visit

Next week, Kate will step into the public eye for the first time since taking a break earlier this year to prioritize her health.

Alongside Prince William, she will represent the King during the State Visit of the Amir of Qatar.

They will greet the Amir and his wife at their London residence and accompany them to Horse Guards for an official welcome ceremony.

This event marks Kate’s next major engagement since revealing on September 9 that she had completed her course of chemotherapy.

Earlier, she joined the royal family for her first significant public appearances following her health announcement, participating in the Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall on November 9 and the Cenotaph Service on Remembrance Sunday, November 10

Royal biographer Sally Bedell Smith shared with People Magazinethat Kate’s return is symbolically and practically important for the monarchy.

“She is clearly a vital piece of the royal family, really important both symbolically and in reality as a future Queen,” Smith said. “It was good that people saw her. You can’t say she is back … but she is coming back.”
