SCREAM V Actress Apologizes for Killing Dewy

Scream V actress Mikey Madison recently opened up about the movie and apologized for killing off Dewy Riley, who was a fan favorite legacy character.

Madison was the murderous Ghostface in the movie, and I was not a fan of David Arquette’s Dewy being killed off the way he was.

During a recent interview with Madison, she admitted to Collider: “I have to be honest, when I did the film, it sounds naive, but I wasn’t so aware of the huge fan base that the franchise has, that I’ve now been able to discover.

“Scream and horror fans and people who love horror films are the best people ever, but I really naively went into it.”

You’ve got to remember that Madison wasn’t even born when the first movie was released, so she didn’t get to experience that pop culture awesomeness.

She went on to talk about Dewy’s demise, saying: “And so I remember being kind of sad because I was like, ‘Oh, such a great character. It’ll be sad to see him go.’ And then I realized afterward the heartbreak that so many people felt.

“People have come up to me, and they’re like, ‘I hate that this happened. I’m mad at you.’ And I’m like, ‘I’m so sorry, I didn’t write the script!’ I didn’t want to do it.”

Yeah, it’s not her fault. It’s the writers and directors who made the decision to take Dewy out, and it’s one of the dumbest decisions they could’ve made.

Neve Campbell previously shared her thoughts on Dewy and how she didn’t want to see the character killed off, saying:

“I was so sad about Dewey’s death. I thought it was tragic and I don’t usually like to criticize the writing in these projects. [But] I was really disappointed in their choice to get rid of David.

“He’s so… I mean Dewey’s such a wonderful character and I think we were all in love with him and I think we all felt pretty sad about that. Which of course is the reason they do it cause it has more impact, but now I miss him. I want to see more of him.”

Madison also talked about the audition process, saying she had sent in her tape and had not heard back for about eight months.

“Then they came back, and they were like, ‘Hey, would you want to be in this film? The character would be the Scream Ghostface character.’ I was like, ‘Yeah, that sounds really fun.

“I would absolutely like to do that, and I specifically would love to play this Ghostface character,’ because it’s such an interesting, fun reveal , and it’s such a crazy, unpredictable arc for a character, as well.”

Madison went on to share what she likes about the Scream franchise and how the characters “are so self-aware in a way where all the actors know exactly what kind of movie they’re in, and you’re able to have fun with it.”
