Kevin Costner Speaks On Final Episode Of ‘Yellowstone,’ And Luke Grimes
Costner broke his silence on the season 5 finale of “Yellowstone” and his reported fallout with co-star Luke Grimes.
In a video obtained by the Daily Mail, an unidentified individual walked up to the Oscar winner as he strolled out in Aspen and asked for his thoughts about the final episodes weeks after his John Dutton character was killed off in a fake suicide.
“I’m not thinking about [the Yellowstone finale], I don’t think I’ve given it any thoughts, we’ll just let it go,” Costner replied.
The individual then doubled down on his relationship with onscreen son and Kayce Dutton actor Grimes, asking Costner if he had spoken with him, but the 69-year-old movie star noted he hadn’t.

Luke Grimes Shaded Kevin Costner
Grimes was candid about how Costner’s exit from the series improved the filming experience for him and the other cast members.
“Hopefully everyone can see that it was time,” he said of Costner’s departure, per the Daily Mail. “To be really honest, there was a part of Kevin being gone that meant some of the conflict was gone.”
Grimes continued, “Obviously, it didn’t make it super fun to be around… Not pointing any fingers, but it was actually the easiest season we’ve filmed.”
In a recent interview with Men’s Health, Grimes also noted that he’d not spoken with Costner since the show concluded.

“No, I haven’t talked to him since. It’s not a case of any hard feelings or anything; it’s just, he’s Kevin Costner,” he said jokingly. “He’s a big deal. I do have his phone number – I just don’t feel like it’s my place to reach out. He can reach out to me if he wants.”
Grimes then told the news outlet that none of the cast members “saw it coming the way it did, and obviously, there was news about possible blowups behind the scenes or whatever. But just like in life, man, these things happen, they happen fast, and they’re not predictable.”

Kevin Costner Talked About His Alleged Rift With Taylor Sheridan
In an interview with Deadline, Costner weighed in on his rumored fallout with show creator Taylor Sheridan.
Reports suggested that the pair clashed because the actor wanted to have a say in how his character ended. Costner also allegedly faced scheduling conflicts when he started filming his Western series Horizon: An American Saga.
“I haven’t felt good about it the last year, what with the way they’ve talked about it. It wasn’t truthful,” Costner said, referring to the blame he got for the behind-the-scenes drama.
“I made a contract for seasons five, six and seven. In February, after a two- or three-month negotiation, they made another contract,” he further explained. “They wanted to redo that one, and instead of seasons six and seven, it was 5A and 5B, and maybe we’ll do six. They weren’t able to make those. Horizon was set in the middle, but Yellowstone was first position. I fit [Horizon] into the gaps. They just kept moving their gaps.”

He Wasn’t Happy That His Fellow Cast Members Didn’t Stand Up For Him
Costner admitted that what he was saying was “straight up” and that he took a “beating from those [expletive] guys” over the team, “not speaking up for me and allowing crazy stories to come out. “
He added that he was “not happy about that” as he further spoke on the situation.
“If you know me well enough, I made Yellowstone the first priority, and to insinuate anything else would be wrong,” he explained in his chat with Deadline. “I did not initiate any of those things. They did. They were doing a tap dance… I don’t know why they didn’t stick up for me.”
The Actor Was ‘Scared As Hell’ Of The Show’s Cast
Denim Richards, whose character Colby was recently killed off on the show, shared that Costner was “scared as hell” when the cast first met for a table read.
“Everyone is getting together and [Kevin Costner] walks in. He’s this massive presence, but so humble,” Richards told the New York Post. “Everyone is getting ready to get up from the table read and go outside. [Costner] said, ‘I don’t know about you guys, but I’m scared as hell. So why don’t we come together the best we can, and make this happen, and support each other.'”
Richards noted that Costner’s speech made the “stress go out of the room” and that “It was a beautiful thing.”

He added, “This is an Oscar-winning legend… whether or not he was really scared, who knows. But it gave everyone this extra level of confidence that there’s no hierarchy.”
