A woman from Atlanta, Georgia, filed a discrimination lawsuit against her former employer, PNC Bank, alleging that she was denied a promotion due to being a black single mother.

Brandie Falice began working with PNC Bank in 2018 and quickly rose to a senior position. However, her career took a turn when she applied for a management role at the Peachtree Corners branch. According to WSB-TV, Falice claims that during her interview for the position, she was informed that her status as a single mother and the racial demographics of the bank’s customers were factors against her. The company also stated that her inability to work on weekends would hinder her ability to fulfill the job requirements.
“I felt the time I spent with this company and my efforts to reach my goals in that space were shot down because of something that I love about myself,” she explained. Responding to the allegations, PNC Bank denied any wrongdoing and stated that their former employee was treated fairly.

Her attorney, Artur Davis, said the lawsuit allows PNC Bank to be held accountable: “It’s a chance for them to show some accountability. How many young women of color are being denied opportunities for the same kinds of bias reasons used to hold Brandie Falice back?”
Today, Falic has moved on to a new position as a Senior Account Executive at an IT company.
