Even though their music has been on an indefinite hold, the Daft Punk nostalgia machine keeps on churning.
The legendary robots are welcoming fans back to the anime sci-fi world of Interstella 5555: The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem, which is airing in 4K in theaters across the world. In honor of today’s global cinematic event, Tokyo-based clothing brand GEEKS RULE has released a rare capsule collection inspired by the 2003 film and its iconic supervisor, Leiji Matsumoto.
The collection comprises five limited edition t-shirts, three of which feature imagery from Interstella 5555, like its signature blue characters and biographical text about the late Matsumoto, who is widely credited as Daft Punk’s childhood hero. One shirt features the band’s logo from their Discovery era and another sports the artwork of the “Drumless” edition of Random Access Memories, their final album.
Since this is an extremely limited release in high demand, purchasing is difficult for fans not local to Toyko. The merchandise will be available for purchase on Saturday, December 14th at their physical storefronts in the Japanese capital, and an online lottery will open on Sunday so fans can enter for a chance to purchase one of the items.
