Two Texas women have been charged after a police officer suffered a serious head injury during their detainment for public intoxication. The incident occurred around 1:40 a.m. on Friday (January 3) in Beaumont, Texas (about 80 miles East of Houston). The two suspects were identified as Jamaysha Butler, 28, and Melissa Bell, 22.

Ahead of the incident, Beaumont Police received numerous reports of a public intoxication/disturbance in Little Woodrow’s parking lot, located at 6210 Phelan Blvd. Upon police arrival, an officer, Andrew Fitzer, 38, attempted to detain a person involved in the disturbance, later identified as Butler.

However, during the confrontation, Butler walked away from the officer as he put Bell into the backseat. Butler soon fled the scene in a convertible vehicle. Viral videos show the entire incident as the officer attempts to detain the two women and chases after Butler who hits the gas on the car just as the officer tries to jump-hop into the back of the convertible to stop her from fleeing the scene.

To no avail, the force from Butler’s takeoff sends the officer flying out of the car, hitting his head on the asphalt and tumbling before landing on his back, barely moving. Bystanders stood in shock with others rushing to the officer’s aid.

Police said Butler was eventually caught in the 3800 block of Kings Row and taken to the Jefferson County Jail. Later Friday morning, after the two Texas women were charged following the police officer’s serious head injury, Justice of the Peace Ben Collins Sr. set bond for the suspects.

Butler’s bond was set at $250,000 for First-Degree Felony Intoxication Assault on a Peace Officer, $30,000 for Evading Detention, both involving serious bodily injury to a peace officer, and $2,500 for Misdemeanor Evading.

Meanwhile, Bell’s bond was set at $150,000 for Second-Degree Felony Assault on a Peace Officer, $2,500 for Resisting Arrest, and $1,500 for Interfering With Public Duties of an Officer. Both women have also been ordered to wear GPS ankle monitors and remain in Jefferson County if they’re able to post bond for their release.
