The early box office projections for Captain America: Brave New World are in, with the film expected to debut domestically between $81 million and $107 million during its opening weekend.
These number mark a strong start for the next film in the MCU, which features Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson taking on the mantle of Captain America for the first time on the big screen.
According to Box Office Theory, the film’s projected domestic total could land between $195 million and $280 million by the end of its theatrical run. While these numbers are solid, they fall short of the record-breaking $211 million opening of Deadpool & Wolverine.
Due to mixed test screening reports, fans are cautiously optimistic, though the recent trailer received a more positive response compared to the other trailers released.
The challenge in this movie lies in convincing audiences and fans that Sam Wilson can effectively carry the mantle of Captain America and the legacy of Steve Rogers.
Mackie explained in a recent interview: “It made more sense for it to be more of a grounded espionage action movie as opposed to aliens and airplanes coming through portals and shit. The opportunity for Sam to really establish himself as a true action star and Avenger comes with this movie.”
Mackie also teased that Brave New World serves as a pivotal reset for the MCU, sharing: “This movie is a clear reset. It really re-establishes the idea of what this universe is and what this universe is going to be… the same way they did with Captain America: The Winter Soldier.”
In the film, Sam Wilson faces his toughest challenge yet. After meeting with U.S. President Thaddeus Ross, portrayed by Harrison Ford in his MCU debut, Sam becomes entangled in an international crisis.
Tasked with uncovering the mastermind behind a global conspiracy, Sam must act before the entire world descends into chaos.
The film’s ensemble cast also includes Danny Ramirez, Shira Haas, Carl Lumbly, Giancarlo Esposito, Liv Tyler, and Tim Blake Nelson.
The movie was directed by Julius Onah and produced by Kevin Feige, the movie will hit theaters on February 14, 2025.
