Amid the deadly Los Angeles County fires, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has offered to send 150 firefighters to assist in battling the ongoing flames.

Joining the crews in Los Angeles County are those in surrounding counties and states, like New Mexico, Nevada, Utah, Oregon, Arizona, and Washington, are firefighters from Mexico, crews from Canada, and now Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is offering to send crews from his country to help assist in battling the fires.

On Sunday (January 12), President Zelenskyy took to X (formerly Twitter) and shared a nearly three-minute video sharing updates with his citizens, where he revealed his offer to send Ukrainian firefighters to help put out the fires in Los Angeles County.

In his video, while addressing the Los Angeles County fires, President Zelenskyy said, “Today, I instructed Ukraine’s Minister of Internal Affairs and our diplomats to prepare for the possible participation of our rescuers in combating the wildfires in California. The situation there is extremely challenging, and Ukrainians can help Americans protect lives. This matter is being worked out, and through appropriate channels, we have offered our assistance to the American side. We already have 150 firefighters prepared.”

Captioning the video, President Zelenskyy’s comments were similarly reiterated, “Today, I instructed Ukraine’s Minister of Internal Affairs and our diplomats to prepare for the possible participation of our rescuers in combating the wildfires in California. The situation there is extremely difficult, and Ukrainians can help Americans save lives. This is currently being coordinated, and we have offered our assistance to the American side through the relevant channels. 150 of our firefighters are already prepared.”

As we previously shared, the first fire to break out in Los Angeles County was the Palisades Fire in the Pacific Palisades and Malibu on January 7. Since then, at least 6 other wildfires erupted across Los Angeles County, including: the Eaton Fire near Altadena and Pasadena; the Hurst Fire near Sylmar and Santa Clarita; the Lidia Fire in Acton and around Soledad Canyon Road; the Woodley Fire near Woodley and Sepulveda Basin; the Sunset Fire near Runyon Canyon and the Hollywood Hills; and the Kenneth Fire burning in West Hills.

The latter notably threatened homes near Calabasas and Hidden Hills. Other smaller fires were later reported near Studio City and Pacoima. As of Saturday night (January 11), the Lidia Fire, Archer Fire, Woodley Fire, and Sunset Fire were all 100% contained after collectively scorching 487 acres and as of Sunday morning (January 12), the Kenneth Fire was 100% contained after burning through more than 1,052 acres.

As of Monday morning (January 13), the Palisades Fire was 14% contained, scorching 23,713 acres, the Eaton Fire was 33% contained, burning over 14,117 acres, and the Hurst Fire was 95% contained, burning 799 acres, according to CAL FIRE. Additionally, there have been at least 29 deaths and two dozen missing people reported, and nearly 50,000 customers without power in L.A. County.
