M.I.A. is back in the headlines again with one of her rants. This time, she’s sharing why she does not support the Black Lives Matter movement.

In a Jan. 13 video shared by Livebitez on Instagram, she said, “We are made in the likeness of God. Which is not our body, which is not our skin tone, which is why I don’t support BLM, because that always perpetually tells you hey it’s about your skin tone. It’s about all the suffering because of our skin tone.”

Three women—Alicia Garza, Patrisse Cullors, and Opal Tometi—started the Black Lives Matter movement in 2013. It was created in response to the insensible deaths of several Black people in the United States by the hands of white people and police. Their mission was to intervene in policies and invest in Black culture and art to support the needs of the Black community.

Wearing a greige-colored hooded outfit, the 49-year-old continued, “The spirit is the spirit. And it’s of God and that is we are made in the image of God. Our spirit is made in the image of God. It is way beyond our color of our skin. The sex, and the gender, and all of the bullshit, what f-cking postcode I live in. What my f-cking bank account says.”

“All of that is secondary. All of that is what my mind is capable of creating. The prisons I’m able to build around myself with my mind.”

It’s not clear what started this conversation for M.I.A., but fans responded left and right to the British-Sri Lankan artist.

One person said, “She should have stayed M.I.A.”

“I know that’s not a One Hit Wonder talking.. Girl BYE,” wrote another.

Someone else wrote, “Meanwhile she did a whole culture vulture move off of…. #nevermind.”

Prior to signing with the label, she rose to fame after releasing her hit song “Paper Planes” in 2008. Later that year, T.I.’s song “Swagga Like Us” sampled her famous verse, “No one on the corner has swagger like us.” Ye, formerly Kanye West, produced the single, and it featured rappers like Jay-Z and Lil Wayne with Ye also dropping a verse. It peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
