After hitting Fire Country Season 1 Episode 10, it’s safe to say that my prediction skills will be useless with a series as unpredictable as this one.

As an audience member who is quick to point out where a story is going, nothing gives me more joy than having my expectations not only exceeded but turned on their heads.

I’m halfway through the first season of Fire Country, and I can confidently say that this show has me eating my words, and I am loving it.

L- Bode and Jake - Fire Country Season 1 Episode 6
Max Thieriot and Jordan Calloway on Fire Country S01E06 (Sergei Bachlakov/CBS)

For a show to so easily switch between nail-biting intensity to tear-worthy drama is a testament to the amount of talent, effort, and passion that has been poured into this series.

The Best Thing I’ve Learned From Watching Fire Country is Just to Sit Back and Enjoy the Dramatic and Intense Ride

Manny 2 - Fire Country Season 1 Episode 8
(ABC/Sergei Bachlakov)

Right off the bat, I must say the cases and calls on Fire Country are next-level extra in the best way. Every episode features one disaster worse than the next.

Also, ten episodes into Fire Country Season 1, and I’ve noticed something particularly interesting. The worst calls Cal Fire takes on have nothing to do with fire.

First, there was the sky bridge that collapsed, and then there was this epically emotional car crash that was nothing short of a rollercoaster of trauma for Vince and Bode.

The writers were messed up for that two-part catastrophe because I’m pretty sure the stress of those episodes took years off my life.

It’s amazing how much the series can pack into just an episode or two because now there is this Cara character who came out of nowhere, and I already love her.

Granted, I’m only at Fire Country Season 1 Episode 10, and I am quickly learning to just enjoy the ride and not make predictions.

There’s a Lot of Love on Fire Country, and Most of It Seems Directed at Bode

Bode vs Vince - Fire Country Season 1 Episode 9
(ABC/Sergei Bachlakov)

Speaking of predictions gone wrong, I guess I was a little early to call it on Uncle Luke. The character doesn’t seem nearly as bad as many of the roles Michael Trucco (The Fall of the House of Usher) usually takes on.

Then again, that little exchange he had with Sharon before she told him to get out of her house felt like foreshadowing. Again, I’m not going to make any predictions, but I can just feel unrequited love bubbling up there.

It certainly seems to be going around because that Rebecca chick sure is hot for Bode. I mean, I can’t blame the woman. Bode is hot enough to start his own wildfire.

However, I doubt there’s much room for her in Bode’s life as he already has all the feelings for Gabriela. It would be weird not to after the life-threatening situations they keep saving each other from.

The Characters on Fire Country Can’t Seem to Catch a Break, But It’s Damn Good Storytelling

Eve - Fire Country Season 1 Episode 10
(Bettina Strauss/CBS)

As great as all these strong women in Bode’s life are, there is one in particular I am dying to see him get into shenanigans with.

Please tell me there is an Eve and Bode self-contained adventure episode somewhere on the horizon. The brief exchanges the two characters have had were filled with the best parts of rebuilding a friendship.

Also, is Ayden just gone now? That’s so crazy after Eve quite literally saved her life. Then again, I much prefer this independent and career-minded Eve over the lovesick one.

Speaking of independence, Jordan Calloway’s (Black Lightning) Jake, from what I could tell of the last episode I watched, is that he has gone splitsville with Gabs in their relationship.

Jake 2 - Fire Country Season 1 Episode 9
(ABC/Sergei Bachlakov)

I can’t even begin to imagine all the drama and chaos this will cause, and just after, Bode and Jake seemed to be headed for a full reconciliation.

My guess, not prediction, is that Bode is going to have to choose between his former best friend and the woman he has developed strong feelings for.

So, of course, the writers would introduce an old flame of Bode’s at just the most inopportune time.

Side note, that electricity burn Cara got in “Get Your Hopes Up” was gnarly. I had no idea they could be that bad or that an exit wound was something that you needed to worry about.

If nothing else, CBS‘s Fire Country is a great lesson in how everything can be deadly in the right, or rather, wrong, situation.

Either way, I am fully hooked on this series and can’t wait to see more of what’s in store. It would be better to involve at least one more shirtless scene from the incredibly talented Max Theriot. I’m just saying.
