Waitress: The Musical, which is a filmed version of the Tony-nominated Broadway hit, is set to premiere on Max on Valentine’s Day Friday, February 14th.

If you enjoy musicals, this is worth checking out. I took my wife to see the play a few years ago and it was really well done and I enjoyed the music.

Waitress: The Musical is based on the film written by the late Adrienne Shelly and stars Keri Russell and Nathan Fillion, and that movie will also be available on the Max starting February 1.

The is the Broadway debut of singer-songwriter and actress Sara Bareilles. The story follows Jenna Hunterson (Bareilles), “a waitress and expert pie maker stuck in a small town and a loveless marriage.

“When a baking contest in a nearby county offers her a chance at escape, Jenna fights to reclaim a long-forgotten part of herself. Through the support of her fellow waitresses and an unexpected romance, she begins to find the courage to take a long-abandoned dream off the shelf.”

In addition to starring, Bareilles composed the music and lyrics. Jessie Nelson adapted the musical for the stage. It also stars Charity Angél Dawson, Caitlin Houlahan, Drew Gehling, Dakin Matthews, Eric Anderson, Joe Tippett and Christopher Fitzgerald.

Waitress: The Musical was directed by Brett Sullivan, with the musical being directed for the stage by Diane Paulus and adapted by Nelson.
