Scheana Shay‘s wedding planner, Danielle Rothweiler of Rothweiler Event Design, spoke out about her time working with the Vanderpump Rules alum and her now-ex-husband, Mike Shay, in a series of posts shared to her TikTok account earlier this month.
In addition to looking back on her interaction with the Pump Rules cast members of that time, including Katie Maloney, 38, Ariana Madix, 39, Tom Sandoval, 42, Jax Taylor, 45, and James Kennedy, 32, Danielle slammed Scheana, 39, as “cheap” as she suggested she would have never tolerated her decision making if she were to hire her today.
“When I first got there, I went over to Hummingbird Nest Ranch, which is the venue that she got married in … it’s very expensive. It’s very comparable to Jersey and New York City venues, but you have to bring everything in, including, they require you to have a minimum of a day-of coordinator. What she should’ve hired was a full planner but she’s cheap,” Danielle began. “Honestly, the places she cut corners to save money is like, at this point in my career, I would literally walk away from a client if they did anything that she did.”
While Danielle didn’t seem too impressed by Scheana, she did enjoy her time with Katie.
“The cast member that was so nice, that it surprised me how nice she was … was Katie,” she confirmed. “Katie was gracious, friendly, no ego on her, nothing, and all I kept thinking every time I spoke to her was, ‘Do you just get a horrible edit because…?’ Or maybe it’s the fact that she was with a total loser [Tom Schwartz] at the time with the ring on the string, and maybe he was bringing her down.”
Also “really nice” were Ariana and Sandoval, as well as Lisa Vanderpump, 64, who Danielle said was “extremely kind and gracious the whole weekend.”
As for Jax, Danielle detailed an odd encounter at Scheana and Shay’s rehearsal dinner at SUR.
“I didn’t have too much interaction with him, but Jax just came across as really stupid,” she revealed. “He showed up to the rehearsal dinner with this big gash in his forehead and explained to everybody that he went to Bloomingdales and saw that he was going to get a parking ticket at the meter outside, and he raced to go add money to the meter, but he didn’t realize the doors were closed so he ran into them.”
Although Danielle had no interaction with Kristen Doute, 41, she did see her with James, who she recalled being “visibly wasted.”
“Production was begging him to leave, and they would call him an Uber, whatever, and he just didn’t want to leave,” she explained. “I feel like that was at like, 9 o’clock at night, so it was still kind of early. But his head was down … on the table … I couldn’t get over how completely blackout drunk he was. It was bad.”

In a second video, Danielle spoke of Shay, describing him as “one of the nicest and most gracious people” she’d ever met and saying that while he was “quiet,” he was also “approachable.”
“He made it clear he was so appreciative of us coming out there from Jersey and of all the work that we did … Super, super, super nice,” she gushed.
She then recalled their interaction at the rehearsal dinner, noting that while Scheana was focused on herself, Shay was mingling with their guests.
“I just remember being at SUR, at the rehearsal dinner, and Shay going around and thanking everybody for coming and just being so kind to everyone, and his fiancée looking in the mirror, fixing her lipstick about 900 times,” she shared.
According to Danielle, she even spoke to Shay years after the event after chronicling behind-the-scenes moments in a series of posts on her Instagram Story as old episodes aired amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
“He sends me a DM and he’s like, ‘This is the funniest sh*t I’ve ever seen.’ So I like Shay. I hope he’s doing well. He deserves all the happiness in the world,” she concluded.

Vanderpump Rules will return to Bravo later this year with an all-new cast for season 12.
