Skai Jackson and her stylist played NO GAMES with her NAACP Image Awards look. The 22-year-old graced the Creative Honors red carpet in an extravagant black cocktail dress on Friday (February 21). That outing was the first time Jackson has stepped out publicly since welcoming her first child and son, Kasai, last month.
At the time, the former Disney star announced her baby’s birth with adorable mommy-and-me photos. Though she kept Kasai’s face out of the camera’s view, she and her newborn wore matching green, plaid pajamas.

Skai Jackson Spills On Motherhood In First Postpartum Appearance
As mentioned, though, mama Jackson put a temporary pause on her newfound duties to pop out! Skai pulled up in a black mini-dress that featured a round skirt, cinched waist, and puffed-out shoulders. She paired the look with a throwback hairstyle: up-do with long bangs. The 22-year-old, who will be turning 23 in April, complemented her look with curly, sparkly earrings and strappy black heels.
Speaking to BET on the NAACP Image Awards carpet, the actress shared which past movie she would’ve wanted a role in. Her answer?
“Probably…I’m trying to think. Back in the day? I would say ‘Boyz In The Hood.’ That’s my favorite movie; I don’t know; I could’ve been a little sister or something,” she said with a laugh.
Elsewhere on the carpet, the mother of one couldn’t help but gush about Kasai. She reportedly told PEOPLE that motherhood has been a “positive” experience.
“I love being a new mom. It’s just so exciting. So exciting,” Jackson says. “I’m here tonight, I’m already missing my baby. But it’s been a great month with my new little one,” Skai revealed.
After weeks of speculation, Skai finally announced her pregnancy in November via the same outlet. By that point, The Shade Room had shared photos of Jackson and her huge baby bump walking through a parking lot amid circulating rumors that she was expecting. Despite all the public interest in her womb business, Skai Jackson has kept Kasai’s first month of life private. Still, she told PEOPLE on the red carpet that he’s “a big baby” that “eats so much.” She also added that she loves seeing her baby every day!
“I feel like being a mom and juggling everything probably has to be one of the hardest jobs, but it’s such a rewarding job because I’m doing it for him at the end of the day,” Skai Jackson explained. “So I definitely learned that about myself. I can just handle whatever at this point.”
