‘Bring Them Down’ is probably one of the best films I’ve ever seen. A brutal and believable examination of old family grudges in rural communities. Superbly shot. Sharp and to the point. As beautiful a piece of art as it is a moral reminder of how anger can lose everyone the battle.

I had no idea what to expect walking into A Minecraft Movie, and to be honest, I wasn’t really interested in seeing it, but I found myself with nothing to do on a Monday night, so I thought I’d give it a go.

This movie is exactly what it needed to be. It fully leans into the weird, blocky absurdity of the game and never once apologizes for it. You want structure or logic with your movie? Go watch something else. This movie is loud, chaotic, dumb as hell, and a total blast.

It’s clear this thing was made by director Jared Hess, the fingerprints of Napoleon Dynamite and Nacho Libre are all over it. The awkward pacing, the random gags, the total disregard for conventional storytelling.

Hess knows how to make something weird and specific, and Minecraft might be the perfect playground for that. It feels like he was given the green light to just go for it, and he did, full throttle.

Jack Black and Jason Momoa basically scream their way through the entire film, and I mean that as a compliment. They’re both unhinged in the best way, clearly having the time of their lives.

Black, in particular, is a human megaphone as he yells almost every single line and somehow never wears out his welcome. It’s this kind of big, messy energy that gives the movie its charm.

They’re not here to give subtle performances. They’re here to blow the roof off the theater, and they succeed.

Speaking of theaters, the audience in the theater I watch the movie in was out of their freakin’ minds. Screaming at the screen, throwing popcorn, and even danced during a fight scene.

This wasn’t just people watching a movie, it was full-on participation, and this was on a Monday night! That kind of rowdiness would usually annoy me, but in this case, it weirdly made the movie better. The energy in the room matched the chaos on screen.

The Minecraft Movie might not be for everyone, but it absolutely hit the mark for what it was trying to do. It’s ridiculous, loud, and completely unfiltered in its weirdness. But dammit, I laughed and I had fun.
