Brittany Cartwright on What She’ll Never Forgive Jax for Doing

Brittany Carwright and Jax Taylor have been in the news quite a bit over the last couple of years. This is due to their returning to reality television with The Valley, as well as their personal drama playing out on the show and in real life. Now, ahead of season two, Brittany is opening up about the one thing she will never forgive Jax for as he discusses the possibility of their young son coming to live with him full time.

Fans of The Valley may also be aware that Brittany recently shared the news that their son, Cruz, was diagnosed with autism. She also spoke at the time about how her home is a safe place for the two-year-old. 

Recently, Brittany sat down for an in-depth and emotional interview with PEOPLE. She started by discussing the home she now shares with their son and how she has changed the welcome mat to reflect that Jax no longer lives there. According to Brittany, “It used to say the Cauchis [Jax’s last name]. I changed that immediately.”

She then described some of the turmoil Jax put her through as he refused to leave the home after their separation. She said, “Jax would not leave for seven months, while I had to move to different rental houses. I even said that he could move into the rental houses that I paid for. He still wouldn’t do it. No matter what.”

Brittany continued to explain her difficult situation by saying, “I didn’t know if I was going to get a chance to come back here. I went looking for houses, and I did all these different things. But I wanted to be here. I feel like I made this house a home. Cruz was born here. This is his house. He’s got his pool outside; he’s got his swing set. He’s got his playroom. He’s got everything here.”

As fans know, Jax has caused much harm to Brittany over the years. This includes infidelity and physical injury. However, there is one thing she says she will never forgive him for. She told the outlet, “I’ll never forgive him for doing that to us. When you’re dealing with a child with autism, we shouldn’t be the ones moving around. That should have never happened. But that’s just how Jax is.”

Jax has since moved out of the home. Unfortunately, Brittany believes he only did so to avoid public scrutiny. According to her, “I think, eventually, when the cameras got turned on [for The Valley season two], he realized, ‘Oh God, everybody’s going to see that I made her move out of the house.’ That’s probably the only reason he finally moved out, I’m not even going to lie.”

When asked about the possibility of selling the home, she told PEOPLE, “I’m not putting her for sale. This is my house. I’m proud of myself, that I could do it by myself. I’m a girl from Kentucky, and I never even thought I would have a house like this. He don’t [sic] help me, at all. Let me make that clear. He does not help me at all, with any of my bills. So I’m just proud of myself that I’m able to do it.”

Brittany also touched on Jax’s battle for sobriety by saying, “He’s done so much damage, and me and Cruz weren’t enough for him to get help for a very long time. I want his dad to be in his life, but it’s just really hard when you can’t trust somebody. It’s going to take me a long time to regain trust in him. I can just hope and pray that one day he will completely knock this, because I’m not sure yet.”

Jax also recently discussed their son having been diagnosed with autism. He told US Weekly, “We’ve known [about his diagnosis] for a while. Obviously, being a public figure, we have to be very gentle in how we do things. Cruz did not sign up for this life. He’s literally the best thing that’s ever happened to us.”

He went on, “I get emotional just talking [about him] cause he’s so delicious. He’s so smart. He’s so intelligent. He’s lacking a little bit in the verbal but he’ll get there. He’s got such a huge support system.”

Regarding him and his estranged wife putting their differences aside, Jax explained, “We just want that little boy to thrive. That’s the most important thing. It’s not about her and I, it’s about him. He’s in school, and he’s in speech and occupational therapy. He’s involved in so much. It’s just taking him a little longer. But, you know what? If he wants to live with me for the rest of his life, that’s fine by me.”

He also provided an update on where he stands with Brittany amid Cruz’s diagnosis, and he discussed how it has brought them closer together. Jax revealed, “Obviously, it has. But it’s not the main reason why we’re not getting along. I don’t want people to say that. We talk every day. We’re OK today but God knows what’s gonna happen tomorrow. Anyone going through a divorce goes through this. I don’t know who doesn’t. It’s just a tough thing, but we’re gonna be OK.”

The Valley season two begins on April 15 on Bravo.
