EXCLUSIVE: Saturday Night Live cast member Devon Walker today announced the launch of My Favorite Lyrics, a new music-themed comedy podcast that will premiere on Tuesday, April 29, with SNL scribe Alex English as its first guest. He also unveiled a first trailer, which you can check out above.
Each week on My Favorite Lyrics, Devon will invite people he thinks are cool to talk about the music that shaped them and the lyrics they can’t get out of their heads. Whether they’re iconic, idiotic, or accidentally profound, no bar is safe. From deep cuts to guilty pleasures, each guest peels back the layers of the songs that left a mark on them — for better or worse.
“God knows we don’t need another podcast from a comedian,” Walker admitted, “but I came to this idea via something I love: rappers saying some of the silliest sentences you’ve ever heard. So don’t think about it as a podcast, think of it as a labor of love. That is also literally a podcast.”
Guests for My Favorite Lyrics‘ first season include Mary Beth Barone, Caleb Hearon, Jaboukie Young-White, and Sam Jay, among others. The show is produced by Lauren Mandel for her production banner Disco Nap, longtime producer of the Las Culturistas Culture Awards, hosted by Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers.
A comedian, actor and writer, Walker joined SNL as a featured player in Season 48, before being promoted to repertory cast two years later. Prior to his time at the long-running late-night sketch show, he wrote for the hit Netflix animated series Big Mouth, as well as Freeform’s Everything’s Trash starring Phoebe Robinson. Originally from Austin, TX and now based in New York, Walker is represented by Mosaic and WME.
