Just when you thought the on-again, off-again saga of DDG and Halle Bailey couldn’t get any messier, the rapper himself is now making headlines with a public apology. DDG has apologized to his ex-girlfriend and the mother of his child for their “tumultuous past relationship,” claiming he was simply “on an Internet high.”
Now, amidst this ongoing legal battle and public scrutiny, DDG apologizes for his past behavior and the turmoil of their relationship. According to The Jasmine Brand, the rapper recently publicly addressed the situation.
“I want to come on here and genuinely apologize for that time,” he stated. “I was young. You know, it was just, I was just on an internet high. We had, like, past situations. We had, like, little s**t. Because I done said some hoe s**t. And y’all know the whole little situation. The s**t that I continue to do. It’s a very, very touchy subject.”
This comes as a shock to many, as he so heavily denied the allegations.
Several X, formerly Twitter, users that supported Halle are feeling vindicated after the public apology.
One user stated, “Remember when this trash piece of s*** texted Rubi rose RIGHT [in] FRONT OF HER FACE because they had an argument?”
Another user wrote, “It shouldn’t have taken a judge granting full custody to Halle for DDG to 1) apologize & 2) admit he was verbally, emotionally & mentally abusive.”
While the apology is public, it remains to be seen how it will impact the ongoing custody dispute or Bailey’s perception of the situation As BOSSIP previously reported, what started as a seemingly healthy co-parenting relationship between them quickly escalated into a full-blown custody battle and restraining order filings that laid bare troubling allegations.
In May 2025, Bailey was granted a temporary restraining order against DDG, alleging physical and verbal abuse. Court documents reportedly detailed shocking allegations, including claims that DDG physically assaulted her in January 2025, slamming her face into a steering wheel and chipping her tooth. She also accused him of verbally abusing her, calling her derogatory names, and weaponizing his online fanbase by making false claims about her on social media, leading to threats against her and Halo. Furthermore, Bailey alleged that DDG broke into her home and attempted to take Halo without her consent.
DDG, for his part, initially hit back, denying the abuse allegations and filing his own emergency motion to prevent Bailey from taking their son to Italy for a film project, claiming she posed an “imminent emotional and psychological risk” due to past threats of self-harm. He even released alleged text messages to support his claims, which social media users widely criticized as an attempt to weaponize Bailey’s postpartum struggles. The judge ultimately sided with Halle, denying DDG’s motion and allowing her to travel with Halo
This apology comes at a crucial time, with the custody battle ongoing and DDG’s public image taking a hit from the serious allegations. Whether this newfound humility is a genuine change of heart or a strategic move in his legal fight remains to be seen.
