Divorce rumors have been swirling about the Obamas recently, but the forever First Lady, Michelle Obama, and her husband, former President Barack Obama, have been mum about the hearsay. On July 16, the famous Democrats finally set the record straight during an appearance on Michelle’s popular IMO podcast.
Hosted alongside her brother, Craig Robinson, the pair, who have been married since 1992, revealed that they were still happily married and in love. Robinson was the first to break the ice about the divorce chit-chatter, recalling how he encountered a woman during a recent trip to Wichita, Kansas, who asked if he knew what Barack may have done to cause the couple’s rumored split.
“I said, ‘What makes you think he messed up? Why couldn’t it have been her?’” Robinson told the duo around the 4:36 minute mark. Michelle, 61, quickly interrupted her brother, pondering why he didn’t inform the woman that “No one messed up.”

Robinson jokingly replied, “I wanted to keep this conversation going so I could tell you about it.”
Eventually, he spilled the beans, informing the nosy fan that the Obamas’ marriage was still going strong.
“She was so happy you would’ve thought I gave her a Christmas gift,” he revealed.
The divorce rumors didn’t travel back to Barack, however. The former president, 63, said he missed out on all of the gossip and was completely clueless when someone did eventually ask if there was trouble going on behind the scenes between him and Michelle.
“I’m like, ‘What are you talking about?’” he revealed, prompting Michelle to finally step in and clear the air.
“There hasn’t been one moment in our marriage where I have thought about quitting on my man,” Mrs. Obama said bluntly. “And we’ve had some really hard times. We’ve had a lot of fun times, a lot of adventures. I’ve become a better person because of the man I’m married to.”
Barack Obama playfully interjected, “OK, don’t make me cry now. Not at the beginning of the show.”
The Obamas celebrated 32 years of marriage in 2024
The Obamas celebrated 32 years of marriage in October 2024, according to Business Insider. The lovebirds met in 1989, when Michelle was assigned to mentor Barack at a Chicago law firm, and have been smitten with each other since. The couple shares two daughters, Malia, 27, and Sasha, 24.
Since leaving the White House, Mrs. Obama has gained more control over her schedule and has made fewer public appearances alongside her husband. During an April 7 episode of the Work in Progress with Sophia Bush podcast, she speculated that rumors of their possible divorce began when she started managing her own time independently. Headlines about the proud mother and author swirled after she did not attend the funeral of former President Jimmy Carter in January, nor was she present at President Donald Trump’s second inauguration.
“The interesting thing is that, when I say ‘no,’ for the most part people are like, ‘I get it, and I’m OK,’” Michelle said, according to Today.com. “That’s the thing that we as women, I think, we struggle with: disappointing people. So much so that this year people were—they couldn’t even fathom that I was making a choice for myself that they had to assume that my husband and I are divorcing.”
