Sean “Diddy” Combs is seeking release on a $50 million bond while awaiting sentencing for two prostitution convictions, each carrying up to 10 years.

Though acquitted of sex trafficking and racketeering, prosecutors allege he led a violent criminal enterprise. His legal team argues the charges stem from consensual relationships and has proposed bond terms including passport surrender and limited travel.

Judge Subramanian denied an earlier bail request, citing concerns about violence due to Sean “Diddy” Combs’ past.

The rapper’s legal team is pushing for his release on a $50 million bond while he awaits sentencing following his recent federal conviction.

On Tuesday, July 29, his attorneys filed the request, arguing that he should remain free until his sentencing date on October 3.

Earlier this month, on July 2, Diddy was cleared of the more serious charges of sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy. However, he was found guilty on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution under the Mann Act.

Due to his mixed verdict, which many considered a victory for the rapper, Diddy’s team requested bail, which Judge Arun Subramanian swiftly rejected at the time.

According to People Magazine, under the Mann Act, those convicted are generally held in custody unless they can demonstrate exceptional circumstances and prove they’re neither a flight risk nor a danger to the community.

In the new motion, Diddy’s defense team argued that his situation presents “exceptional circumstances warranting a departure from mandatory detention.”

His attorneys reiterated points made during trial, claiming that both Casandra “Cassie” Ventura and another ex-girlfriend, who testified under the alias “Jane,” were involved in a consensual swingers lifestyle, not victims of coercion as prosecutors alleged.

The motion also claims the Mann Act has never been used in a case with similar facts.

“In the history of the statute, the Mann Act has never been applied to facts similar to these to prosecute or incarcerate any other person,” the defense’s motion stated, per People Magazine.

Diddy’s lawyers also argued that over the past 75 years, the law has only been applied in cases involving “interstate travel for financial gain through the business of prostitution,” not personal relationships.

Judge Highlighted Diddy’s History Of Intimate Partner Violence

In their previous motion in early July, Diddy’s legal team proposed a $1 million bond after his mixed verdict.

At the time, Combs agreed to surrender his passport, limit his travel strictly to California, Florida, New York, and New Jersey, and also subject himself to drug testing.

Despite this, Judge Subramanian denied the request, citing Combs’ history of intimate partner violence, particularly toward his ex-girlfriend, Cassie.

The judge emphasized that “this type of violence, which happens behind closed doors in personal relationships, sparked by unpredictable bouts of anger, is impossible to police with these conditions.”

In Diddy’s team’s new $50 million bond request, the embattled rapper has again agreed to give up his passport due to concerns about him being a flight risk.

The music mogul also intends to limit his travel strictly to the Southern Districts of Florida and New York, solely for legal consultations.

Now, according to People Magazine, Judge Subramanian has given federal prosecutors until Thursday, July 31, to file their response to the request.

Prosecutors Paint Diddy As Violent Crime Boss in Shocking Trial Allegations

During the eight-week trial, federal prosecutors argued that Diddy was the head of a criminal enterprise involved in crimes such as kidnapping, bribery, and arson.

They further alleged that he forced his former partners, Cassie and another woman referred to as “Jane,” to engage in sex acts with male escorts. Both women testified in court, detailing their experiences.

One of the key pieces of evidence presented to the jury was a 2016 hotel surveillance video showing Diddy physically assaulting Cassie.

At Diddy’s bail hearing, prosecutors strongly opposed his release. They emphasized a violent incident with Jane in June 2024. This attack occurred even after federal agents had raided Diddy’s homes and while he was fully aware that he was under investigation for sex trafficking.

“The only things exceptional about this defendant are his wealth, his violence, and his brazenness,” lead prosecutor Maurene Comey told the judge during the July 2 hearing.

Meanwhile, as Diddy awaits his sentencing, the rapper has reportedly been engaging in therapy while behind bars.
