What was supposed to be a quiet, ordinary Friday afternoon outside a Florida daycare took a devastating turn no one saw coming. In a matter of moments, a routine pickup spiraled into a scene of chaos and heartbreak—leaving stunned witnesses, unanswered questions, and a family forever changed. Now, 34-year-old Mindy Osteen finds herself at the center of a case that has shocked the community and left many struggling to make sense of what really happened.

What Went Down At The Daycare?
According to an arrest report obtained by Law & Crime, police responded to Auntie Lili’s Daycare after receiving a report of a shooting and a woman with a weapon on-site. When officers arrived, they found Christopher Jones in the doorway, “bleeding profusely from what appeared to be multiple gunshot wounds.” Additionally, he was picking up their two children from the daycare when the shots allegedly rang out by Osteen. And, at the time of the evening shooting, at least six other children and two employees were inside the daycare.
What Led Up To That Moment?
According to reports, Jones had just placed the children and their belongings into his vehicle when Osteen allegedly walked up. As he sat in the driver’s seat, she reportedly reached into her backpack and opened fire. When Jones tried to run into the daycare for cover, she allegedly fired again — three more times — as he got stuck behind the door. “You got to die, Chris. You can’t kill [redacted],” Osteen reportedly said after shooting, while Jones allegedly replied, “I’m not killing nobody.“
And, as revealed in Mindy Osteen’s arrest report:
“[Jones] then puts [redacted] in the car seats in the back seat of his vehicle as Mindy follows and watches… Christopher is sitting in the driver’s seat with the driver door opened. Mindy walks directly up to Christopher and fires three shots as she backs up slightly. She then walks back up to Christopher and fires two more shots. Christopher can be heard screaming…”
More Details On The Disturbing Incident
Even worse, their children were reportedly still in the car watching the entire incident unfold. Screams could allegedly be heard from inside the vehicle as the violent scene played out in front of them. Deputies say that after the shooting, Osteen began walking around the property and going through Jones’ car. Furthermore, when authorities arrived, she didn’t resist.
Jones, still conscious at the time, reportedly told them that Osteen shot him. She then allegedly walked up to deputies and said, “I’m right here, y’all, I done it in self-defense.” But, it’s what she reportedly said before that that has folks stunned: “Please let the monster die.” Following the incident, Jones was rushed to the hospital but tragically did not survive.
