Following early reviews, Wednesday Season 2 has debuted to largely positive reception, earning a Fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes. The new installment expands on the show’s gothic tone with tighter storytelling, more Addams family involvement, and continued praise for Jenna Ortega’s standout performance.

What critics are saying in Wednesday Season 2 reviews

Most critics have given Wednesday Season 2 favorable feedback.

Ben Travis of Empire Magazine said, “Wednesday goes big in a second season that bites off a little more brains than it can chew. Still, it’s a fun ride — worth it just to watch Steve Buscemi groove to ‘Dancing In The Dark’.”

Lili Loofbourow from The Washington Post highlighted Jenna Ortega’s performance, writing, “[Ortega’s] remarkable stage presence imbues the prickly teenager with enough humanity…to anchor and sometimes justify the show’s horror and clichés and patchy, not-quite-persuasive lore.”

Kelly Lawler of USA Today noted, “The story this time is far more streamlined and, quite honestly, interesting.” Clint Worthington from RogerEbert.com commented, “Part I sets up the show gamely for a Part II that should, in a perfect world, stick the landing.” Meanwhile, Carla Meyer of San Francisco Chronicle said, “This emphasis gives Zeta-Jones and Ortega… more to play. Both excel.”

However, not all reviews were positive. Christina Izzo of A.V. Club gave it a C-, writing, “There might be more room for Wednesday’s personal growth…if…the series weren’t already so crammed with competing elements.” John Anderson of The Wall Street Journal added, “Wednesday is the extreme version of the alienated adolescent… [the creators] lard the story with so many backstories, useless digressions and subplots.”

Wednesday Season 2 reviews lead to amazing Rotten Tomatoes score

Wednesday Season 2 holds an 82% Tomatometer score based on 56 critic reviews, slightly ahead of Season 1’s 73%. While the second season’s structure differs due to the split release, early scores suggest it may retain a similar reception overall.

The audience score for Season 2 currently sits at 86%, matching Season 1’s verified viewer rating. Reviewers have consistently praised Ortega’s portrayal, the horror-comedy balance, and the show’s visual direction, though some criticism remains over subplot congestion and pacing.
