A tragic scene unfolded Friday evening when 33-year-old Officer David Rose was killed during an active shooter situation at a CVS across the street from the CDC’s main campus near Emory University.
According to FOX 5 Atlanta, Rose joined the DeKalb County Police Department in September 2024, serving in the North Central precinct. He is survived by his wife, their two children, and another child on the way. Interim Police Chief Greg Padrick described him as “committed to serving the community” and urged the public to keep his family in their prayers.

Timeline of the Shooting
Authorities say officers responded to a 911 call around 4:50 p.m. reporting an active shooter inside the CVS. When police arrived, they found Officer Rose critically injured. He was rushed to Emory University Hospital but later died from his injuries.
Investigators identified the shooter as a white male, who was located on the second floor of the store with gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene after being removed by emergency medics.
Police confirmed that no civilians were physically injured in the incident. However, four people were transported to the hospital for stress and anxiety-related symptoms caused by the terrifying situation.
Residents in the area say the shooting has left the community rattled — especially given its proximity to one of the country’s most secure and high-profile campuses.
