Denver alt-rock crew Public Opinion recently signed to SideOneDummy and will release a new three-song EP called Perpetual Motion Machine, arriving Sept. 19. The EP was recorded by Christian Gutierrez and mixed by I Am the Avalanche/the Movielife drummer Brett Romnes.
Of its title, vocalist Kevin Hart says, “It could be taken as ‘Why are we doing this still?’ And, to be fair, I do often feel this way. I’ve shaped my life to allow me to create and perform music, so when you start getting diminishing returns, it can feel like, ‘What the fuck have I done to myself?’”

Lead single “Laughing Academy” features Drug Church’s Patrick Kindlon, offering up an abrasive verse that contrasts the clean hook superbly. They’re hopping on a fall tour with Liquid Mike and Militarie Gun, whose frontman Ian Shelton co-produced last year’s Painted On Smile. Before that begins, they’ll open for an Alkaline Trio show in Boulder. See the exact dates here.
