Hey r/movies! I’m Ratchapoom Boonbunchachoke, director of A USEFUL GHOST, my feature directorial debut. The film premiered last year in Cannes, where it won the Grand Prix at Cannes’ Critics Week. It’s currently playing in select theaters. Ask me anything!

KPop Demon Hunters has officially claimed the crown as Netflix’s most-watched movie of all time, racking up a wild 236 million views and bumping Red Notice from the top spot. That’s a major milestone for the animated action-fantasy flick, and it’s proof that fans around the world are loving the mix of K-pop flair and supernatural butt-kicking.

KPop Demon Hunters follows a girl group who moonlight as monster slayers when they’re not performing in sold-out arenas. That blend of fantasy, action, and K-pop charisma clearly hit the sweet spot for viewers.

It pushed Red Notice and its star-studded trio of Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds, and Gal Gadot to second place with 230.9 million views. The rest of Netflix’s top five includes Carry-On starring Taron Egerton, Don’t Look Up with Leonardo DiCaprio, and the Reynolds-led The Adam Project.

Netflix even gave KPop Demon Hunters a rare theatrical run last weekend. Though official numbers weren’t released, insiders say the film crushed it at the box office with an estimated $18 to $20 million haul, making it the weekend’s top-grossing movie. On top of that, it was still the most-streamed Netflix movie last week, scoring another 25.4 million views.

Directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, who also co-wrote the script with Danya Jimenez and Hannah McMechan, the film was born from a story conceived by Kang. Lending their voices to the animated heroes are Arden Cho, Ahn Hyo-seop, May Hong, and Ji-young Yoo.

The soundtrack was also a massive hit. With tracks by Ejae, Jenna Andrews, Danny Chung, Ido, Vince, Kush, Daniel Rojas, Stephen Kirk, Lindgren, and Mark Sonnenblick, it soared up the charts, helping fuel the film’s pop culture takeover.

Since premiering on Netflix on June 20, KPop Demon Hunters has been praised for its originality and high energy. It really is a great film. I was very surprised by how good it was when I watched it.

If you haven’t watched it yet, now’s the time to see what the hype’s about.
