Following Bugonia‘s world premiere at the 2025 Venice International Film Festival, Focus Features‘ newest dark comedy from director Yorgos Lanthimos has finally received its initial Rotten Tomatoes score. The movie is currently scheduled to arrive in U.S. theaters on October 24.

“Two conspiracy-obsessed young men kidnap the high-powered CEO of a major company, convinced that she is an alien intent on destroying planet Earth,” reads the movie’s official synopsis.

What is Bugonia’s Rotten Tomatoes score?

Bugonia currently holds a Tomatometer rating of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 16 reviews. Because of this, it is now Lanthimos’ highest-rated collaboration with Academy Award winner Emma Stone, after working together on three other movies. Their first project was 2019’s The Favourite, which has a Tomatometer score of 93%, while their second movie, 2023’s Poor Things, received 92%. Both movies earned Oscar nominations for Best Picture.

Bugonia is directed by Lanthimos from a screenplay written by Will Tracy, with Midsommar director Ari Aster serving as a producer. The movie also stars Jesse Plemons, Aidan Delbis, Alicia Silverstone, Stavros Halkias, Vanessa Eng, Marc T. Lewis, Momma Cherri, Cedric Dumornay, Parvinder Shergill, and more. The movie is produced by Ed Guiney, Andrew Lowe, Lanthimos, Stone, Lars Knudsen, Miky Lee, and Jerry Kyoungboum Ko. It is a production by CJ ENM, the company behind Bong Joon-ho’s Parasite.

The original movie was written and directed by Jang Joo-hwan, with acclaimed South Korean actor Shin Ha-kyun (Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance) leading the cast. During its theatrical run, it received positive reviews and numerous recognitions from South Korea’s award-giving bodies, including the Blue Dragon Film Awards and Busan Film Critics Awards.
