Mumford & Sons Going Big On North American Tour

Just weeks after releasing 17 new songs, Hayley Williams has slotted them into an official album called Ego Death At A Bachelorette Party (plus the extra song “Parachute”). Previously, she’d uploaded the tracks on her website, deleted them, and put them out as separate singles, replete with their own artwork.

Since its initial release, launched through her new venture Post Atlantic, we’ve received a pair of videos that survey her relationship with home. The first, “Ego Death At A Bachelorette Party,” takes place in her hometown of Nashville, where she falls into countless tourist traps on Broadway (and two-steps near Rep. Justin Jones). The second, “Glum,” fixates on isolation, co-directed by her Paramore bandmate Zac Farro and AJ Gibboney on 35mm film. There have also been acoustic offerings, “Glum (In The Park)” and “Kill Me (In The Garden),” performed with producer Daniel James. The latter mashes up mewithoutYou’s “Son of a Widow” at the end while showing off her new “Glum” ink. All the while, fans have been compiling their own tracklists, sorting through the varying moods — trip-hop, shoegaze, folk — and coming up with hundreds of combinations. The names that stuck were “Ego” or “Ego Death,” after Williams first made the tracks available to those who purchased the limited “Ego” shade of Good Dye Young.

“I have been at the creek listening to potential tracklist orders and still trying to create my own,” Williams wrote on Instagram last week, who didn’t take long to make good on her promise. The rollout has been supremely refreshing, the mark of an artist finally operating on her own terms and feeling liberated by all the possibilities.
