Netflix has really carved out a lane in the romantic drama space. Shows like Virgin River and Sweet Magnolias have become enormous hits for the streaming service over the years. Recently, the three existing seasons of Sullivan’s Crossing were added to Netflix’s lineup, and the Canadian drama rose straight through the streamer’s ranks to become one of its top TV titles of the summer. Following that success, Netflix appears to be diving even deeper into the genre, adding a fan-favorite series that wider audiences may not be familiar with.

On September 1st, Netflix added all six episodes of A Thousand Tomorrows, the TV adaptation of Karen Kingsbury’s bestselling novel of the same name. The series is a romantic drama set in the world of professional bull riding, following two unexpected lovers as they navigate their careers and their mortality.

A Thousand Tomorrows was added to Netflix’s lineup on Monday and has quickly become one of the more popular TV titles on the service. Thursday’s edition of the Netflix Top 10 TV Shows list includes A Thousand Tomorrows in the number six spot. Given how few episodes there are of the series, it’s likely the streak in the Netflix Top 10 won’t last for a very long time, but the fact that it has been there for even a couple of days is a great sign.

What Is A Thousand Tomorrows?

This romantic drama may have just popped up on Netflix for the first time this week, but A Thousand Tomorrows has actually been around for a couple of years. The show was first released by Great American Pure Flix (formerly Pureflix) back in 2023, with all six episodes being released to the streaming platform. The show is based on the 2005 faith-based novel from Karen Kingsbury, which actually starts an entire trilogy of stories featuring the main character, Cody Gunner.

In A Thousand Tomorrows, a professional bull rider named Cody falls for a horse racer named Ali, though both of them have spent years avoiding close relationships with other people. They each harbor secrets, one of which is a dangerous illness that could threaten any kind of future they might want to plan together. Colin Ford and Rose Reid star in the series as Cody and Ali, respectively.

Only one season of A Thousand Tomorrows has been released, but the show’s success on Netflix could potentially lead to more episodes at some point in the future. After all, Kingsbury has released three books that follow the Cody character, so there is more story to tell.

After releasing A Thousand Tomorrows in 2005, Kingsbury went on to write the sequels Just Beyond the Clouds (2007) and This Side of Heaven (2009).
