While Peacemaker Season 1 made it abundantly clear that John Cena’s Chris Smith hasn’t always been a big fan of other superheroes, things for the jingoistic vigilante, as well as the DCU, have changed drastically since then. However, as per James Gunn’s recent comments, in Season 2, Cena’s Peacemaker still seems to harbor resentment towards Batman, Superman, and other DC heroes for a very specific reason.
James Gunn says Peacemaker is still ‘a little salty’ with Superman and other DCU heroes
In the latest episode of Peacemaker: The Official Podcast with James Gunn, the veteran filmmaker noted that John Cena’s character continues to hold a grudge against Batman and the other superheroes in his universe due to their popularity.
“He hopes-he wants to be a superhero, but we find out they don’t really consider him one,” James Gunn explained. He then added, “They consider him a loser. So yeah, although I think he’s got more pressing issues at this point, he’s a little salty. He’s not a big fan of the guys that get all the attention.”
Notably, Peacemaker Season 1 showcased Cena’s titular superhero engaging in a fiery confrontation with the Justice League. Even though Season 2 has since replaced the league with the Justice Gang, Peacemaker’s attitude towards Superman and his powerful acquaintances remains the same.
James Gunn provided yet another example of Peacemaker’s disdain for the other DCU superheroes, stating, “In the Superman movie, you can actually hear him. He’s being interviewed by Cleavis Thornwaite, and Cleavis asks him, you know, about Superman, and he goes on about how Superman’s jealous of him because he’s edgier and more muscular than he is.”
So far, Peacemaker Season 2 has released three of its eight-episode roster. With five chapters still left to come out, and more characters from the Superman flick expected to make a cameo in later episodes, fans can bank on the season to expand upon Peacemaker’s relationship with the other heroes in his universe.
