Brad Ingelsby, the creator of HBO’s Mare of Easttown and Task, recently reflected on the prospects of a crossover between the two shows. The former features Kate Winslet as the eponymous detective Marianne “Mare” Sheehan. It originally aired on HBO in 2021. The cast of the latter includes Mark Ruffalo as FBI agent Tom. It premiered on the network on September 7, 2025.

Brad Ingelsby would ‘love’ for Mark Ruffalo’s Tom to meet Kate Winslet’s Mare

Brad Ingelsby appeared at the red carpet premiere of Task on Thursday and discussed the prospects of a crossover with Mare of Easttown. “I think there were still more stories to be told about people in Delaware County,” he told The Hollywood Reporter.

“They exist in the same world, so it wouldn’t surprise me one bit if Mare walked into a Wawa that Tom was in. I don’t have a story in mind that’s a crossover, but I love the idea of their worlds intersecting.”

Tom Pelphrey, who plays Robbie in Task, also expressed interest in the crossover. “Welcome to the new MCU,” he said, before stating that he was a fan of both Task and Mare of Easttown. Pelphrey continued, “So, if there’s a version where those things crossover, I think that would make a lot of people very happy.”

In a different interview with TheWrap, Ingelsby detailed how he began developing Task after scrapping the prospects of Mare of Easttown Season 2. He recalled his discussions with Winslet on the subject and said he struggled with how to take Mare’s story forward.

“One of the things I really struggled with, was I felt like Mare [the show] was such an emotional journey and every time I tried to think of what would happen next in Mare’s life, it was always less than that,” Ingelsby explained.

Ultimately, Winslet didn’t want to reprise her role if they didn’t feel confident that the sophomore season would be as good as the first installment. Ingelsby subsequently began working on another concept, a team story that became Task.

Task airs on HBO weekly on every Sunday.
