The second to last chapter of Peacemaker Season 2, titled “Like a Keith in the Night,” drops viewers right back into the chaos of Earth-X and pushes the story into even darker and more unpredictable territory.

What starts as an absurdly funny gag about Chris overlooking the obvious signs of a Nazi-controlled world quickly spirals into shocking confrontations, emotional confessions, and a finale that leaves fans stunned.

The episode kicks off with Chris finally realizing what should have been clear from the start, that Earth-X is run by Nazis. From Mein Kampf sitting on every desk to a massive Hitler mural in A.R.G.U.S., the clues were everywhere.

Once the penny drops, Chris and Harcourt go on the run, while Adebayo finds herself rescued in electrifying fashion by Judomaster.

Meanwhile, Auggie tells Keith that the Chris they know might already be dead. He reveals he once met his son’s doppelganger, describing him as “cruel and likely from a much darker world than their own.”

Blue Dragon and Captain Triumph suit up as Economos tries to rally Eagley for a jailbreak. On the road, Adebayo and Judomaster share a sobering moment, noting that their Earth isn’t all that different from this one.

Just when it seems like Peacemaker and Harcourt are cornered, Auggie and Keith arrive in brutal fashion, gunning down their enemies and forcing Chris to go with them if he wants to survive.

Elsewhere, Rick Flag Sr. and Sasha Bordeaux enlist Superman’s Sydney Happersen, who explains this dimensional portal is far more secure than Lex Luthor’s version.

Rick clearly plans on keeping Sydney close, which might spell trouble later. Back with Auggie, Chris opens up about why he does what he does, admitting he only ever wanted to feel like he had a family.

Surprisingly, Auggie listens, saying their Chris was “out of control,” and even believes this Peacemaker’s story that he killed his son by accident.

But things only get bloodier. An alternate Larry Fitzgibbon comes knocking, suspicious of what’s happening, but Auggie sends him away. Auggie then tells Harcourt he isn’t a Nazi and can’t fight every injustice, but he’s determined to try and make his world better. It’s a strong moment of clarity and hope until Vigilante viciously stabs Blue Dragon to death, cutting it short.

That brutal act sparks another firefight, and Keith lashes out at Chris, blaming him for the destruction of his world. Peacemaker breaks down, admitting with tears in his eyes, “it’s not his world or theirs that’s wrong; it’s him, because he destroys everything he touches.” It’s one of the most devastating moments in the series so far.

The episode barrels toward its climax with Harcourt unable to finish off Captain Triumph as the cops close in. Keith is taken away in an ambulance, while Chris and the others make it back to their world only to find Flag Sr. and A.R.G.U.S. waiting with guns drawn.

In a heartbreaking move, Peacemaker takes full responsibility for everything that happened with the QUC. He’s arrested, while his friends are set free.

Broken, betrayed, and haunted by what went down on Earth-X, Chris ends the episode in the lowest place we’ve ever seen him. With the finale just one week away, fans are left wondering if Peacemaker can possibly find redemption after this, or is his story destined to end in tragedy?
