Cameron Monaghan has played some pretty iconic roles throughout his career, but when it comes down to it, his time as Jedi Knight Cal Kestis stands above the rest.
The actor, who brought the character to life in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, recently admitted that Cal is probably his favorite role of all time.
Speaking at a fan screening for the Disney+ miniseries LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy – Pieces of the Past, Monaghan shared how much he enjoys exploring different sides of the Jedi.
The show, aimed at younger fans, gave him a chance to bring a lighter version of the character to the screen.
“Our games are generally for an older audience, and Cal is usually in a lot of peril and existential angst, as I would say. It was nice to have a little bit of fun with him and have a pretty lighthearted time.”
The actor didn’t hold back on how much the character means to him, adding:
“He’s easily one of my favorite characters, if not my favorite character, I’ve ever gotten to play, and being able to take him somewhere else is a real joy. It’s really nice to be able to see him in a different way.”
Monaghan has already confirmed that a third Star Wars Jedi game is in development, telling fans last year, “We’re working on a third and we’re in the process of doing that right now.” While he’s made it clear he would love to play Cal in live action, Monaghan admitted it “would have to be right.”
Of course, Cal Kestis isn’t the only fan-favorite character he’s portrayed. DC fans remember him as Jerome and Jeremiah Valeska in Gotham, twisted twins who served as early inspirations for the Joker. He also voiced Kon-El (Superboy) in the animated film Reign of the Supermen.
Monaghan’s next big role takes him into yet another beloved sci-fi franchise. He joins Jared Leto in the upcoming Tron: Ares, where he plays Caius, a combat program and member of Ares’ elite special forces. The film hits theaters on October 10.
