This is Tour Diary, where artists give us a behind-the-scenes look at life on the road. In September, Cafuné — the indie-pop duo of Noah Yoo and Sedona Schat — returned with their latest album, Bite Reality, where they contend with exhaustion from social media, algorithms, and artificial intimacy. As Schat sings on “e-Asphyxiation,” “Why do I have to prove that I am alive online?/I’m tied down too tight by all these phone screen obligations.” In response, their new songs are bigger and more confrontational — sharp vocals, blunt honesty — that examine the distinction between posting proof of life and genuinely putting in the work for a meaningful existence. “What helps you to be better is actually facing: What is really wrong, and how do I work through it?” Schat says.

Cafuné have recently been playing those tracks across North America, enlisting their friends in crushed. Before they wrap up the headlining run at the end of the month, the band took us through some tour highlights, from decadent cupcakes in D.C. to preshow rituals.
