December 19-21 Box Office Recap – ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ debuts with a great $89.1M domestically and $347.3M worldwide. ‘David’, ‘The Housemaid’ and ‘The SpongeBob Movie’ post solid debuts. ‘Marty Supreme’ opens with the best per-theater average in 9 years.

Renée Zellweger is teaming up with Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts filmmaker David Yates for an intense new psychological thriller titled Phantom Son. The project is going to tell a gripping, character-driven story filled with mystery, obsession, and emotional turmoil.

The film is based on an original screenplay by Ian Scott McCullough, known for The Mosquito Coast. The story follows Ronnie, a young runaway fighting to survive life on the streets.

His world takes a dramatic turn when he’s taken in by Audrey (Zellweger), a lonely woman haunted by the disappearance of her son twenty years earlier.

As Audrey becomes convinced that Ronnie is her missing child, their relationship spirals into a chilling psychological game where the line between reality and delusion begins to vanish.

The project was originally conceived and developed by Zellweger and Carmella Casinelli under their Big Picture Co. banner. After attaching Yates to direct, they continued developing the story together before partnering with AGC Studios to bring the film to life.

In a joint statement, Zellweger and Casinelli shared their excitement for the project:

“Phantom Son is that rare discovery with promise to connect on a broad scale with the kind of rich, character-driven storytelling we love, and we’re thrilled it’s taking shape with such an extraordinary team. With David at the helm, and AGC as our partner, we’re poised to deliver something really special.”

Zellweger, best known for her work in Cold Mountain and Chicago, recently appeared in Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy and Only Murders in the Building. Yates, meanwhile, is coming off his Netflix drama Pain Hustlers, which starred Emily Blunt.

With this kind of talent both in front of and behind the camera, Phantom Son sounds like it could be a dark and emotionally charged thriller that fans of Zellweger and Yates won’t want to miss.
