Marvel is taking on a whole new strategy after Secret Wars! A report on the troubles of the Multiverse Saga reveals why they’re bringing the Russo Brothers back permanently.
It’s no secret that the Multiverse Saga has been a rather rocky road for Marvel Studios. While there have been some amazing projects to come out of the last few years, it’s clear that the studio stumbled and never quite recovered. There are many fans who are only excited that the Russo Brothers are working on Secret Wars so that this era will come to an end quicker.
However, it may not have been entirely Marvel’s fault that the Multiverse Saga ended up so scuffed. A new report on the studio by The Cosmic Circus speaks on the Russo Brothers’ new role in a “Marvel Parliament” going forward, revealing that many of the plans that were laid for the saga leading up to Secret Wars were kneecapped by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Like, the main idea of the saga was to basically introduce this idea of the multiverse so Marvel could play around in the sandbox and do things they’d never really get a chance to do if it was just their main, established universe.”
“And they wanted to try out new elements and explore new corners of the MCU while still trying to find ways to relate it to the multiverse, ultimately to get to this point where incursions are happening in the main universe and the multiverse is about to end. And of course, introduce cameos of previous heroes here and there.”
“But COVID-19 affected their plans; a lot of the internal discussions pushed for Marvel to drop their content months and even years before they were ready, and it was a domino effect that really just had a catastrophic mess of a story plot where practically less than half of the projects dropped in the last 5 years actually matter to the overall plot of the Multiverse Saga.”
The Russo Brothers To Join Marvel’s Brain Trust
Luckily, it seems Marvel has a plan to help to try to steer the ship once the Multiverse Saga comes to an end. The studio reportedly plans to bring the Russo Brothers into a “Marvel Parliament” to help oversee their slate following Secret Wars. This is because the duo seems to have the ability to wrangle large swathes of actors and storylines at a time.
“So, as I understand it, Marvel’s bringing the Russos along for the ride post-Secret Wars as part of the famous ‘Marvel Parliament,’ basically just overseeing the general story for the next Saga. Because they want to avoid the mistakes they made with the Multiverse Saga in trying to branch out to many different story points and having multiple open endings without having a clear direction….”
“…And in their minds, the Russos, who have experience juggling multiple characters in their movies and tying storylines together, would be a good addition to the team. They can provide their input into what works where, what can be introduced now vs. what can be introduced some other time, and so on.”
Given the Russo Brothers have a bit of a sticky reputation online, it’ll be interesting to see how things turn out if Marvel really does bring them into a parliament post-Secret Wars. The duo has deniable chops when it comes to the connected universe. But whether or not they have the sauce to guide something like the Multiverse Saga is another thing entirely.
Avengers: Secret Wars is set to hit theaters in December 2027. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe!
