SZA Breaks Her Silence On Rumored Nicki Minaj Feud
Three months after Nicki Minaj threw some shade at SZA’s looks and questioned her achievements in the game, the Grammy-winning singer is finally speaking out. In a new interview with GQ, SZA made it clear she’s just as confused as the rest of us about how this so-called “feud” even started.
“I don’t know her,” SZA told GQ in an interview published Nov. 6. “We have no connection to each other. There’s no backstory. Like, there was no through line narrative. It was just like, ‘Roc Nation’…. I don’t know where it came from. That’s not even my place to correct a narrative that I don’t got s–t to do with.” She added, “It was a little strange. It was very like, ‘Why?’ But also, you know, ‘I guess.’”
How The Drama Between SZA And Nicki Minaj Started
Back in July, the tension seemed to come out of nowhere. Nicki Minaj appeared to take shots at SZA after the “Kill Bill” singer voiced frustration with her label situation. Without naming SZA directly, Nicki tweeted, “Go draw your freckles back on bookie.”In another post, Nicki doubled down, throwing shade at SZA’s music success and questioning the integrity behind her chart-topping album SOS.
“B—h put out a whole new album as a deluxe to an already existing album that was out for like a year or 2 so the original album could break records,” Nicki wrote. “Like what in the insecure lack of morals & integrity you doing? I thought she was like a real artist? Girl bye.”
Still, SZA didn’t let the online chatter distract her. Instead of firing back, she took the high road and sent out a message that showed she’s not here for online negativity.
“I get bullied by millions online every day then step my ass out onna packed stadium tour where ppl show me REAL love. IN REAL LIFE,” she wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “My parents are healthy and I’m the most successful I ever been. GET SOME F–KING PERSPECTIVE n BARK AT THE WALL !!!”
SZA Says She’s Not Here For Drama, Especially Between “Grown-Ass Men”
While SZA’s name has been caught up in more than one celebrity conflict this year, she’s keeping her peace — especially when it comes to the feud between Kendrick Lamar and Drake. The singer has worked with both artists but told GQ she’s staying out of the mess.
“It was something between two grown-ass men, so why would I insert myself between something between two grown-ass men, you know?” SZA explained. “And I feel like that’s how everybody felt—with the exception of people who didn’t feel that way.”
She continued, “I didn’t really have any stake, per se. Obviously, I love Kendrick. I’m signed to TDE. That’s my family. Obviously, I’ve known Drake for so long and we have a beautiful rapport. And, obviously, it’s always unfortunate when the unfortunate occurs.”
SZA Focuses On Love, Not Internet Chaos
SZA’s response shows she’s moved beyond internet beefs. She’s prioritizing her art, her fans, and her peace — and the success speaks for itself. With her SOS tour selling out arenas and her music breaking streaming records, it’s clear she’s more focused on her blessings than any drama online.
Her calm, grounded perspective continues to set her apart in an industry that thrives on mess. While fans debate whether Nicki’s posts were really about her, SZA’s sticking to her truth — and it’s paying off.
