Avengers: Secret Wars was almost a LOT bigger! The latest rumor suggests the Multiverse Saga originally had its eyes set on a new trilogy.
For as sad as it is to say, it’s clear that Marvel wants to wrap up the Multiverse Saga as quickly as humanly possible. Almost every issue possible – from social issues, to production delays, and even viral outbreaks – have sought to cripple the once mighty franchise. And with Avengers: Secret Wars due out in just over two years, it seems the studio will be successful in limping to the finish line.
Yet this wasn’t always the plan. Not just for the Multiverse Saga, but for Avengers: Secret Wars as well. A rumor from MyTimeToShineHello suggests that Secret Wars was originally meant to be split into two parts, giving the Multiverse Saga its own Avengers trilogy. However, the studio ultimately decided against this and kept it as a single film.
The End Of The Multiverse Saga
Following this rumor, some fans had hope that Avengers: Secret Wars may still be split into two parts. However, given Marvel is already in early development for their X-Men reboot, it’s likely that the studio doesn’t want to delay the Multiverse Saga but yet another year. Plus, if the next two Avengers films end up flopping, they won’t have a third albatross around their necks.
It’s also likely that this rumor doesn’t tell the whole story. Most likely, whatever plans there were for the two Secret Wars films have been split among both Avengers: Secret Wars as it stands and Avengers: Doomsday. There’s no guarantee the Multiverse Saga will go out with a bang. But at the very least, this keeps it from going out face-first into concrete.
Avengers: Secret Wars is set to hit theaters in December 2027. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe!
