Weeks after his arrest for allegedly violating a restraining order, the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star Mary Cosby’s son, Robert Cosby Jr., is going through a divorce.
Multiple outlets reported that Robert Jr.’s wife, Alexiana Arian Smokoff, filed for divorce in Salt Lake County District Court in Utah on Monday, November 24. According to paperwork obtained by People, the divorce petition required that neither party “harass, intimidate or disturb the peace of the other party, by any means, including electronically.”
Other prohibited actions on behalf of either party include “commit domestic violence or abuse against the other party or a child, use the other party’s name, likeness, image, or identification to get credit, open an account for service, or obtain a service, cancel or interfere with telephone, utility, or other services used by the other party, cancel, modify, terminate, change the beneficiary.”
The divorce filing comes after Robert Jr., 22, whom Mary, 53, shares with husband Robert Sr., was arrested earlier this month and charged with violating a pretrial protective order, which is a Class A misdemeanor in Utah.
He was also charged with property damage/destruction loss, assault on a police officer or military SVC member in uniform, failing to stop at command of law enforcement, interfering with a peace officer, and criminal trespassing. People confirmed that he was booked and remains incarcerated in the Salt Lake County Jail.
“Today Robert Cosby took responsibility for the mistakes he has made and the pain he has caused his ex-wife and her family,” his lawyer shared in a statement ahead of Robert’s scheduled hearing on Tuesday, November 25. “Robert was slow to recognize that his marriage was over. He continued to make contact with his ex-wife in an effort to reconcile. He now realizes that the relationship is over and he must move on.”
Robert Jr. was previously arrested when police responded to an initial domestic violence report in September. He was accused of attempting to break into his father-in-law’s home before allegedly assaulting someone. Robert Jr. was charged with criminal trespassing, assault, failure to stop at the command of law enforcement and three counts of violating a court order.
RHOSLC viewers have seen Mary try to be there for her son amid his struggles with substance abuse.
In a recent Us Weekly cover story, Mary admitted she was “shocked” when she learned about Robert Jr.’s issues, adding, “I immediately started blaming myself, because I thought, ‘You can’t judge him and his life and his choices.’”
She continued: “I don’t believe in judging people. I’m just not a judger. I don’t like judging people, and I don’t like to do it. … If he’s opening up enough to tell me something this crucial, then why would I judge? I have no choice but to sit there and receive it and accept it and hope that I can help him.”
Mary acknowledged that her son “had a little bit of a setback” in his recovery recently, but she prayed that he “stays good,” telling Us, “I can honestly sit here and say he’s doing very good.”
