Not everyone is making the cut for Avengers: Doomsday! Two iconic heroes are seemingly being left out in a recent rumor about the project.
Avengers: Doomsday is set to be the biggest crossover Marvel has ever done. Not only is it a celebration of the MCU so far, but it’s also bringing back many of the most iconic members from Fox’s X-Men roster. However, even though the rumor mill teases that there are still more surprises on the way, there are a few heroes who have seemingly been cut from the roster.
A recent rumor round-up from scooper Alex Perez at the Cosmic Circus shed some light on what a few key players in the MCU may be doing during the events of Avengers: Doomsday. Though perhaps more interestingly, the leaker also suggested that two fan-favorite characters have been cut from the film. Specifically, Hawkeye and War Machine will seemingly be left out of the major crossover.
“Rhodey is currently in recovery since the events of Secret Invasion, and Marvel is still reeling with that fallout. And Clint is retired. I don’t know if they’ll be back.”
The Cut Heroes Of Avengers: Doomsday
Out of the two heroes cut from Avengers: Doomsday, Jeremy Renner is the easiest to explain. During the time in which the film was being written and shot, Renner was both injured and in contract disputes with Marvel for his pay in a potential Hawkeye season 2. As such, it makes sense they’d stray away from including him in any ongoing MCU project.
War Machine is in a similar boat, albeit a less timely one. Secret Invasion turned out to be one of the most controversial MCU projects, while also leaving a major question mark in the air as to when Rhodey was replaced by a Skrull. Given how complex the question is, and how packed Avengers: Doomsday would be, it makes sense Marvel would just not want to deal with it.
Avengers: Doomsday is set to hit theaters in December 2026. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe!
