However, rumors would follow claiming the two weren’t legally married and only got married “for TV.” It was then reported that they didn’t legally marry until 2020 due to Harris’ child support concerns from previous relationships.
On January 16, 2015, the couple welcomed their second child, a daughter named Skylar Harris. Smith also adopted her foster child, Infinity Gilyard, born on March 8, 2002, in 2018. In December 2019, Smith announced her formal adoption.
Meanwhile, Harris has an older son, Mendeecees Harris Jr., born on October 8, 2005, whom he shares with ex Samantha Wallace. Harris shares another son, Aasim Harris, born on September 7, 2011, with ex Erika DeShazo.
In 2016, Harris went to prison for drug trafficking. He was then released after four years. During this time, Smith held down the fort, juggling her career, the couple’s children, and support for her improvised partner.
In January 2020, Harris was released from prison and reunited with his family. However, by 2024, Harris admitted that he felt he and his partner were drifting apart. In early 2025, cheating rumors began circulating with both parties accused of being unfaithful.

Mendeecees Harris Admits He And Yandy Smith Split Over A Year Ago And Were Never ‘Legally Married’
As 2025 draws to a close, Mendeecees Harris is now admitting that he’s been separated from Yandy Smith for over a year and that they were never “legally married.” During his ‘Streetz Morning Takeover‘ interview, Harris addressed the rumors about him cheating on Smith. He said:
“Even if me and Yandy decided to breakup, it’s no one’s business besides our household’s. So, if you see me acting ‘inappropriate,’ it’s appropriate for me. Maybe not for you, because, I’m sorry you wasn’t in the groupchat when we decided that we not—I’m sorry you wasn’t in our bedroom when we had this conversation. And that’s a problem because, a lot of times, these rumors, you know, we’re so private that we sit back and we laugh at it. It doesn’t affect us the way that it affects the public. People be like, ‘Oh, y’all should be more transparent and let us know.’ We gotta figure out how to let our children know.”
While addressing the current status of his and Smith’s relationship, Harris confirmed:
“We’re not together. I’ve known Yandy for like 20 years and right now, we’ve been probably split up for over a year. 20 years, is like, that person helped changed you [to become] who you are today. You know, you grow up. I matured in so many ways messing with Yandy. I wouldn’t be the man who I am today if it wasn’t for her. She made me look at family different. She’s made me look at life different. If I show you how closed off I was, I wouldn’t be even sitting here having this conversation. It’s just unfortunate that after time we just couldn’t get on the same page.”
When asked if they are getting a divorce, Harris added, “Well, we were never legally married. So, I don’t know how we would get a divorce.” When asked if he only married for “TV,” Harris added, “Nah, I ain’t do it for TV.” He continued, “Listen, it was Yandy’s idea. In the beginning, I was going through legal battles with courts and fines and she said, ‘Let’s not sign the papers.’ And I was like, ‘Alright, cool.’ I guess it kind of just stayed that way. Then, we got married again and then we still ain’t…”
Harris continued to briefly talk about his wedding and then added, “Listen, but you gotta think about it. If I look back now, I see what people going through a divorce with assets and stuff like that, we don’t gotta go through none of that. It kind of worked out.”
