Fetty Wap is a free man after being released from prison almost a year early.

The New Jersey rapper, best known for his hits “Trap Queen,” “679” and “My Way,” was transferred from a federal prison in Minnesota to home confinement in Philadelphia on Wednesday (January 7), according to Billboard and TMZ.

Fetty (real name Willie Maxwell II) was sentenced to six years behind bars in May 2023 on federal drug charges. His original release date was scheduled for December 2026 with time served.

“I want to thank my family, friends, and fans for the love, prayers, and continued support — it truly means everything to me,” Fetty said in a statement.

“Right now, my focus is on giving back through my community initiatives and foundation, supporting at-risk young children by expanding access to education, early tech skills, and vision care for young kids and students so they can show up as their best selves.”

He added: “I’m committed to moving forward with purpose and making a meaningful impact where it matters most.”

Following his release, the 34-year-old was filmed receiving a warm welcome from his record label, 300 Entertainment, inside their New York City office.

Fetty Wap was arrested back in October 2021 at Rolling Loud New York after being accused of transporting over 100 kilograms of cocaine, fentanyl and heroin from California and distributing them across Long Island and New Jersey as part of a drug trafficking ring.

He initially pleaded not guilty to federal drug charges and was released from custody on a $500,000 bond the following month as he awaited trial.

However, his bond was revoked in August 2022 after he allegedly threatened to kill a man while waving a gun on a FaceTime call, violating the conditions of his release.

Despite his legal troubles, Fetty’s music career hasn’t come to a complete halt. He released his third album, King Zoo, in late 2023 while in prison and most recently linked up with Freebandz rapper Doe Boy on the song “Lil Sexy.”

The NJ native also enjoyed an unlikely surge in popularity last year when his 2015 track “Again” topped the TikTok Billboard Top 50 and re-entered the Hot 100 at number 41 thanks to a viral TikTok trend.
