Is Avengers: Doomsday killing its darlings? A rumor about the film’s ending reveals shocking details about the story for Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine and Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man.
The rumor mill has been putting an odd amount of focus on Spider-Man and Wolverine the past few weeks. Perhaps it’s because all of the oldheads are on their phones for the holidays, but reports have been coming out suggesting that Hugh Jackman and Tobey Maguire will be carrying one of the many storylines in Avengers: Doomsday, although details on what that story is have been sparse.
And while the rumor mill is still keeping much of the events of Avengers: Doomsday under lock and key, some details have come out about Tobey Maguire and Hugh Jackman’s futures in the franchise. A rumor from MyTimeToShineHello suggests that the ending of the upcoming film will set up their versions of Spider-Man and Wolverine to take a leading role in Avengers: Secret Wars.
How Avengers: Doomsday Will End
While it’s exciting to hear that Hugh Jackman and Tobey Maguire will seemingly co-star in Avengers: Secret Wars, it’s interesting to get confirmation that Avengers: Doomsday will directly set them up as the leads. There’s not many ways the playing field can be cut down so much throughout a single film. If this rumor is true, it’s more likely than not that Avengers: Doomsday will end up with the creation of Battleworld.
For those unaware, Battleworld is an amalgamation of planets from across the universe originating in the 2015 Secret Wars run. If the multiverse is truly destroyed in Avengers: Doomsday, this rumor makes sense as the next film would focus on the sole survivors of multiple universes. This would include Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, and likely other major heroes such as Wesley Snipes’ Blade and Ioan Gruffudd’s Mr. Fantastic.
Avengers: Doomsday is set to hit theaters in December 2026. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe!
