EXCLUSIVE: Cliff “Method Man” Smith (Power Book II: Ghost) will star opposite Angelina Jolie and Charlie Plummer in Sunny, the dark thriller from Norwegian filmmaker Eva Sørhaug (Tokyo Vice, Yellowjackets) on which we’ve been reporting on since December.
Character details are under wraps. Riffing on classic mafia films, Sunny follows a female gangster who fights to protect her sons — and herself — from an abusive drug kingpin. But when a devastating event occurs, she only has a matter of hours to plot their permanent escape.
Smith will be playing the role of black-market art dealer, Ruskin.
Hailing from Gramercy Park Media, A Higher Standard, and Nickel City Pictures, Sunny is written by William Day Frank, who conceived the story with Sørhaug. Gramercy Park Media’s Nathan Klingher is producing alongside Jolie, Nickel City Pictures’ Mark Fasano and A Higher Standard’s Jeffrey Greenstein, in association with Choice Films, with Sørhaug exec producing. A Higher Standard is handling worldwide sales, with WME Independent co-repping domestic.
A Grammy-winning musician and actor best known as a founding member of the hip-hop collective Wu-Tang Clan, Smith will next be seen starring opposite Kelly Rowland in Amazon MGM’s romantic comedy Relationship Goals, based on a bestseller by Michael Todd, which streams February 4th. Upcoming, he’ll also be seen starred alongside Leslie Mann in Maude Apatow’s directorial debut Poetic License, which premiered at the 2025 Toronto Film Festival and will be released theatrically by Row K Entertainment in May.
Smith has earned four consecutive NAACP Image Awards for his supporting role opposite Mary J. Blige in Starz’s Power Book II: Ghost. Other recent credits include Poker Face Season 2 at Peacock and Lionsgate’s action-thriller Shadow Force. He is repped by manager Shauna Garr, CAA, and Frankfurt Kurnit Klein & Selz.
