Ne-Yo is rejecting the idea of performing at the world’s coveted stage, the Super Bowl — instead insisting that he would much rather see Chris Brown get redemption and hit the stage before himself.

Ne-Yo previously shared this sentiment during a March 2025 interview with Real 92.3 LA’s ‘Big Boy’s Neighborhood.’ He said, “With zero ego, I feel like Chris should get the next one, definitely, and then I’ll go after Chris. But, Chris deserves that like now.”
While sitting down with ‘The BagFuel Brigade,’ Ne-Yo said Breezy deserves redemption and receive an invitation to perform on the world’s biggest stage. As Ne-Yo and hosts, Esso and Hynaken, talked about various musicians, the Super Bowl came up. They asked the “So Sick” singer if anyone has ever approached him to headline the Super Bowl Halftime Show. He shook his head and replied, “No.”

When Hynaken mentioned JAY-Z’s name, Ne-Yo shrugged his shoulders and threw his hands up. He added, “I don’t think—I strongly believe that Chris [Brown] would get the call before me. And to be honest, I would rather see Chris do it. I would rather see Chris do it.”
The hosts agreed, noting, “That would be a dope redemption,” and “Chris would be fire [at the] Super Bowl.” Ne-Yo added, “He’d smash that.” Esso agreed, “He’ll smash the Super Bowl. He’ll cook that. And that’s why they’re not going to put him up there.” Ne-Yo quipped, “Yeah.”

Ne-Yo Says Chris Brown Deserves Redemption While Slamming Black Cloud Over His Career
‘The BagFuel Brigade‘ host Esso continued to tell Ne-Yo, “He’s gonna cook it too much that they’re going to be like, ‘Nah.’ Them powers that be that still want that black cloud over Chris Brown, they’re not going to want him cooking real on the biggest stage on television.”
Ne-Yo admitted, “It’s really wild to me that people are still holding onto things like that. It’s like ‘Does redemption just not exist?’ Like, ‘Are you just forever guilty once you do something?’ Like, is that is what it is?” Esso replied, “Yeah. Yes, you are. Nowadays, yes you are.” Ne-Yo replied, “That’s crazy to me.” Esso added, “Especially if you’re Black in America.”
Ne-Yo continued, “The fact that the ‘victim’ involved has come forth and said, ‘Man, y’all still on that? The hell is wrong with you?’ Even she came forward and it was like, ‘Get off that. Come on.’ And still people don’t—that, that—I don’t know, man. I don’t like where we live.” Esso then asked Ne-Yo, “Are you moving out?” He replied, “I’m moving mars. I’m getting off this planet, man.” Hynaken joked, “I thought you would have said Nigeria or something.” Ne-Yo insisted, “Nah. I’m getting off. I’m getting off.”
