Are the X-Men the TRUE heroes of Avengers: Doomsday? A rumor suggests that there may be a good reason for the beloved mutants to take on the Avengers.
There’s a lot of “open secrets” in the comic book movie industry. It’s why Marvel had to announce they stopped development on a Nova project that was never officially announced, and why James Gunn just can’t seem to get off social media. Perhaps the biggest example of this is everyone knowing that the Avengers will fight the X-Men in Avengers: Doomsday, despite that never being officially confirmed.
And as it hasn’t even been confirmed that the X-Men and Avengers will come to blows, fans really have no clue what could have started this war. Most of what has come out about Avengers: Doomsday has centered around Doctor Doom, leaving very little evidence in regards to what everyone’s favorite mutant team has been up to.
The X-Men’s Real Reason To Fight
Some insight on this burning question has finally been provided by MyTimeToShineHello. The insider reveals that the core reason why the Avengers and X-Men come to blows is a misunderstanding. However, it’s a misunderstanding that seems to be painting the X-Men in a rather sympathetic light heading into Avengers: Doomsday.
“In Avengers: Doomsday, the X-Men [have] been through many Incursions, so when the Avengers and [Fantastic Four] come to their universe to try and help them, they assume they came there to destroy them, and that’s why they fight.”
This rumor, ultimately, seems like the best option for explaining why the Avengers and X-Men fight in Avengers: Doomsday. It paints neither side as the bad guy while still allowing for that hero vs hero goodness fans love to gobble up. This not to mention that characters like Cyclops have always had a streak of mental instability, giving them a chance to play with that characterization in his heel turn.
Avengers: Doomsday is set to hit theaters in December 2026. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe!
