Jimmy Eat World will celebrate the 25th anniversary of its breakthrough album, Bleed American, on an extensive tour beginning June 9 at Red Rocks outside Denver and concluding with Nov. 14-15 Orlando, Fl., stops on the revived Vans Warped Tour, for which the band will appear at all five dates.
The tour also boasts Jimmy Eat World’s biggest U.K. show ever on Aug. 16 at London’s 20,000-capacity Gunnersbury Park. Opening acts constitute a who’s who of classic and up-and-coming rock bands, including Sunny Day Real Estate, Rise Against, Hot Mulligan, Thrice, Motion City Soundtrack, Mom Jeans, Minus the Bear, the Get Up Kids, PUP, Sparta, Hey Mercedes, Girls Against Boys, Illuminati Hotties, Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers and Jay Som.
Jimmy Eat World will perform the entirety of Bleed American, which was released July 24, 2001, by DreamWorks but for seven years was referred to as self-titled in the wake of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. The album is best known for the huge single “The Middle,” which dramatically increased the Arizona band’s mainstream visibility and has now been streamed more than a billion times on Spotify.
“At the time we wrote it, I didn’t think ‘The Middle’ was all that valuable because it was so simple and came together really quickly,” frontman Jim Adkins told SPIN in 2021. “We put it on the record but we never expected for it to have the connection with people that it has. I think there is definitely a fallacy as an artist where something you struggle with is of more value than one that is easy and just falls in your lap. ‘The Middle’ fell into our laps.”
In today’s announcement, Adkins says “this tour is designed to be an elevated version of our show — a heightened experience with production that reflects 25 years of learning how to stretch artistically in the live environment.”
