Is Avengers: Doomsday actually going to save the MCU? A report suggests that the upcoming crossover event could be the biggest film of 2026.

Despite how much marketing and discussion there has already been about Avengers: Doomsday, it’s safe to say that longtime fans are worried about the project. A number of creative decisions, such as casting Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, have turned out controversial among the fanbase, leaving many worried that the film will bomb and – potentially – sink the MCU.

Yet it seems that insiders may be a bit more optimistic about the project than fans. Variety recently released a massive report about the current state of Disney, which touched on current projections for Avengers: Doomsday. According to their sources, even heads of other studios believe that the MCU’s next tentpole will be the biggest release of 2026.

Will Avengers: Doomsday Be Good?

Of course, a movie succeeding doesn’t mean it’ll be good. However, it seems as though things are looking up in that metric as well. The report also states that higher-ups at Disney are pleased at what they’ve seen of Avengers: Doomsday. Moreover, even if the project does flop, it likely won’t sink the franchise, with them considering no one project as the key to the MCU’s success or failure.

Of course, rarely has the discourse machine been dictated by actual facts. For those that weren’t around, the MCU had a similar doomsayer narrative back in 2015 through 2019, where Ant-Man and Doctor Strange were seen as death rattles of a dying genre. Now a decade out, Avengers: Doomsday seems set to once again revive the brand in the eyes of fans and critics alike.

Avengers: Doomsday is set to hit theaters in December 2026. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe!
