Quiet Light’s liminal bedroom pop

Maya Hawke has announced her new album Maitreya Corso, out May 1 via Mom + Pop. Hawke’s fourth full-length was recorded in the fall and winter of 2025 in NYC and Woodstock, New York with producer Christian Lee Hutson, who worked on 2024’s Chaos Angel.

On her website, acting as a “creative hub” for the record where fans can share their own artwork, Hawke explains that Maitreya Corso is a main character in a fantasy world. “This website is my way of letting you enter Maitreya’s world,” Hawke says. “I hope you like it and that it inspires you to try seeing yourself as a creature of your own imagination. I hope you’ll follow along through the story of this album and the tour here, as I am finding all the usual ways to be misery-inducing. And my biggest hope of all is that it inspires you to build your own world in your own head and to do that with artwork of any kind.”

“‘Devil You Know’ is about trying to keep ambition and greed out of the creative process,” Hawke continues. “This album generally is about learning to protect the precious from the poisonous. Protect creation from pride. Protect love from control. Protect collaboration from jealousy.”

Hawke will also go on her first U.S. tour in three years, ahead of her performance tomorrow at the annual Tibet House U.S. Benefit Concert at Carnegie Hall in Manhattan with Hutson.
