Mikayla Matthews Shares Surprising Update With Jace Terry After Separation

Mikayla Matthews shared more insight into her separation from Jace Terry, and she revealed whether they’re still living apart. The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star also addressed their struggles with intimacy.

On the new season of SLOMW, Mikayla revealed that she and Jace were living apart. In the past, Mikayla opened up about her challenges with intimacy and shared that she was sexually abused in her childhood. The star has also discussed her chronic skin flare-ups.

Speaking to ET, Mikayla shared insight into their separation.

“Obviously, my health was a huge reason for the separation,” she said. “My body’s been stuck in fight or flight probably since I was six years old. And so I’m like, I haven’t felt safe in my body in basically my whole life. And so it’s hard to work on intimacy and like feeling safe in the bedroom when you’re not, you know, safe in yourself.”

“So [are you] currently still separated?” asked the interviewer.

“No,” she answered. “Well, we’re, I mean, I go into Airbnbs all the time for like my health. So yeah, it’s a lot of moving around, but we’re still together and working on it. It’s a work in progress, but we are also very open with our kids, and they know the situation.”

Mikayla said she thinks she and Jace balance each other out.

“And I think he is so patient with these issues, even though he’s never going to fully understand them,” she added. “He’s been giving me so much grace, so much patience with it. I mean, he’s such a good dad. He’s in his stay-at-home dad role right now, and he has so much patience with the kids. I feel like he was made for that. He does just adore me. … I give him a lot of allowance, so keep him around.”

Around the same time, Mikayla also addressed their status in an interview with PEOPLE.

“Last season, we dove into the beginning stages of it, and that was me revisiting all this trauma for the first time as well,” said Mikayla of her past abuse. “It’s still new to me, and it’s new to him, and we’re just navigating it the best way that we can. … Unfortunately, I think [my relationship with Jace is] just something that’s going take a lot more time. I feel like that’s all I can say on it now.”
